If your phone is wet because of the storm open you cell phone using the presicion screw and make it dry naturally but before that you have to replace everything the motherboard of your cell phone is main trouble you have to dry it naturally and after it is dry you can put it in its original position and try your cell phone to use..

Replacement batteries do not seem to be charging. Have checked they are the right sort of batteries. What am I doing wrong!?

The assumption is you replaced the batteries because you thought they were bad. It's highly possible the charger of your base is dead. If you have a voltmeter see if there's voltage (10% or more greater than the rated voltage of the battery). If not, it's the charger that's dead, not the batteries.

The damage is not to the phone line it is to the phones. Unfortunately this is very common with powered phones as they are almost never kept on surge protectors and are very fragile. You will need to purchase a new base station to use with existing phones.

Phone not charging

If your phone is not charging, then it means there is a problem somewhere. You need to test the battery, charger and phone. Try them out on other devices, the battery might be dead and cannot hold a charge, or the connection port on the phone might be bad also you need to check the charger if it is still working fine. Once you have tested the 3 components, then you will be able to tell where the fault is from and the solution to it is to replace the faulty component.
Hope this advice helped you.

I think the batteries have run out on my handset but i have tried lithium batteries and rechargable batteries but nothing is working

If you have tried it in known working telephone jacks, then your phone is dead. Probable voltage spike or lightning damage. If it's just the handset that is not working, but you can use the base to call out and receive calls, then your handset ids bad, or the base isn't charging the handset. Best solution if handset is bad is to find the receipt and exchange it.

Why does the phone go dead after only talking about 20 seconds?

Either the battery is bad or the battery needs to be charged or the charger is bad thus the battery isn't charged.
