Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

TRANSMITTER IS "DROPING" CODE

I have craftsman 1/2 horse opener, recently one of the transmitters stopped working. I thought is was battery first, so I changed it but still didnt work.

Then I noticed my wired pushbutton was flashing, so I reset the codes and was back in business-for a day!
Then both of the doors were having the same issue, so I reset those, and they are fine now, but why would they loose their code to begin with?
Also, now that I have reset my codes, I am not able to use the keypad, how can that be corrected.

Thank you

Thank you! But how do I do the keypad?

When I set code button on opener, what do I select afterwards on keypad?
Because when I did the remotes I set code button, then selected one of the three buttons on remote.

This is a very rare condition that I have come across. I believe it's related to a power surge. Replace back-board.
The only other thing I have seen is that someone will replace the opener and not replace the wall button and you only have a doorbell type button instead of the wall button that came with the newer system which has 3 buttons on it one of which is 'lock'.
When the button is flashing the opener is in 'lock' mode and won't 'listen' for any remote control at all (incase your on vacation and someone is trying to hack your opener code) but the wall button will still work.
You need to reprogram the keypad again like you reprogrammed the remotes.

If the keypad requires a battery to operate then all you need to do is push the 'learn' (set the code) button then slowly input the 4 digit code you want on the keypad and press enter.

Remote transmitter stopped working, changed battery, reprogrammed opener and it works but now only at a very short distance - about 1 -2 feet. Is this a transmitter issue or the opener?

There is no way to tell if you only have the one transmitter. If you have another remote or a wireless keypad that is working normally then it is that remote.

I think you are going to be stuck for a new opener. This is highly unusual but does happen. You are right about not being able to change the code. You can erase the codes but once you program it you have put the same codes back in. A new opener will be on a completely different radio frequency and should end this.

Opener can be closed by pressing only the ENTER button if the One Button Close feature has been activated. This feature has been activated at the factory. To activate or deactivate this feature press and hold buttons 1 and 9 for 10 seconds. The keypad will blink twice when the One Button Close is activated. Quantum 3213. the door opener opens neighbors and visa versa

You can follow these instructions to change the code of yours. Might work for you.

NOTE: You must change the transmitter's code before programming the transmitter to the motor head unit.
The following steps describe the process to change a Quantum™ and Classicdrive™ security code.
This process only works fro transmitters with a GREEN LED and a "U" in their model number, such as "02-3047 2B U" or "02-3047 2B UH".
Changing the Transmitter Code
1. Press and hold the button on the transmitter that you want to change. The GREEN LED will flash once and then turn off.
2. Continue to hold the button until the GREEN LED begins to flash (approx. 10 seconds).
3. When the GREEN LED flashes, immediately release the button and then immediately press and hold the same button again. The GREEN LED will now come on steady.
4. Continue to hold the button until the GREEN LED begins to flash (approx. 5 seconds).
5. When the GREEN LED flashes, immediately release the button.
6. The code for this button has now been changed to a new randomly generated code. Do not push the button again until instructed in "Programming Transmitter to Power Head Unit".
7. You must now re-program this transmitter to the motor head unit. See "Programming Transmitter to Power Head Unit".
Programming Transmitter to Power Head Unit
1. Press the PROGRAM button located on the garage door motor head unit once. The PROGRAM STATUS light on the motor head unit will turn on and remain lit for one minute, indicating that it is ready to learn the Transmitter code.
2. Press the same button on transmitter as you did in "Changing Transmitter's Code" above. The PROGRAM STATUS light will turn off indicating a successful learn.
3. Press the same button on the Transmitter once more to operate the door.
4. If you are unsuccessful in programming the transmitter to the motor head unit of if the button does not operate the door or if you wish to program another button to operate a different door, you must change the transmitter's code.
Battery
If the LED does not turn on when button is pressed, replace battery.
