Hi,
I have an energy star (kenmore) dehumidifier that is about 6 years old. The fan works but I hear a clicking noise every few seconds and no water gets collected. I have put the thermostat (% of humidity) at various levels, left dehumidifier on for about 3 days but to no avail no water collects.
Could you give me some ideas on what the problem may be?
Thanks so much.
-   my goldstar dh504e-ly6 has the compressor sound and the settings at it's highest. It's cleaned and is in a 65% humid basement with no collection after 36 hours. Last year it worked like a charm. Now no water at all but sounds like it is working ok. I do not feel any excessive heat or oily leaks that would sugest that it leaked it's freon.
So before I take it apart, I would like to know if it is worth repairing.
The Goldstar/LG 1800 number only can offer basic maintainace issues. They gave me two local people that service it. One said if it is the compressor it will be likely more work and money to repair than it's worth. If it is a freon leak, then to test to find leaks, then repair and replace the dryer and refill would cost me 150$. So if I can not purchase replacement parts myself for less, I'm forced to buy a new one.
..Unless someone knows of a silly little sensor somewhere that may be able to replace and make it all better with ease.
...can ANYONE answer this simiple question?
thanks

Hi,
A dehumidifier is just a refrigerating machine with it's shirt hanging out and there is not much in the way of serviceable parts inside.
If the compressor runs - the throbbing sound - and it doesn't collect water then either the intake filter screen is totally clogged with fluff or the compressor has leaked it's gas away, in which case it might run continuously and get hot to no good effect.
If it doesn't run then it may be that the motor capacitor has failed, but that can soon lead to the compressor motor cooking itself; leaving you with an expensive doorstop.
The one thing you might get checked is the "bucket full" switch. There will be a floating part on the bucket which rises up when the bucket fills and eventually makes contact with another part which is connected to a small switch. If that switch has failed you might be lucky and get an inexpensive repair job done.
If these suggestions do help you solve the problem, please give my reply a suitable rating. If they do not, please add a comment with more details so I can try to help you further.
Cheers, D

Soleus 40 pint dehumidifier... used for 3 years, stopped making water. Recently overfilled, auto shut off hadn't worked and water level overflowed. 2 days later can't get to make water. Tried all the settings. Within temperature range.. broken?
