My gateway laptop cant connect to the internet. _When I plug a cable, the red light in the port does not respond _ The WIFI does not respond

Hello John,
It seems that: 1. Your LAN controller and the WiFi controller could be disabled in your BIOS setup. To re-enable them, if applicable,
  • Press the F1(or F2 ) key repeatedly after restarting the computer to enter the BIOS setup.
  • Navigate through your BIOS and locate the settings for LAN conroller and wireless, and select Enabled to enable them.
2. You may not have the appropriate drivers installed on your laptop for your network controllers. Upon further investigation, your laptop runs on the following network hardware:
  • ActionTec IEEE 802.11b network card installed in Mini PCI expansion slot
  • Broadcom BCM94306 IEEE802.11g network card installed in Mini PCI expansion slot
  • Broadcom BCM94300 IEEE802.11a/g network card installed in Mini PCI expansion slot
Download and install your drivers for the hardware above from: Wireless Drivers(Broadcom BCM94306) from http://www.soft32.com/download_175098.html Broadcom BCM94306 10/100Mbps LAN drivers from http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/downloaddrivers.php
Hope this solution helps.Good day.

I have two problems with my HP compaq 6830s running VIsta business SP2 1) My inbuilt web cam stopped to work, and i have tried to uninstall and reinstall drivers with no luck. 2)The wireless card,...

If you upgrade your operating system like from windows xp to windows vista, you need to install new hardware driver for your computer like for LAN, webcam, WAN and others because the old driver is only compatible with the old operating system and not with VISTA operating system. Solution would are, download webcam and WAN driver for Windows Vista and install it into your computer. Don't just upgrade your computer because the configuration is not the same with the old operating system. If problem still exist, just upgrade the service pack from 2 to 3. There is available install for upgrading the service pack of each operating system. and surely all your hardwares will function.

My Laptop Same Thing

The problem with upgrading or downgrading to MS Vista is the lack of driver support manufacturers provide as unlike other past Operating systems Vista did not sell very well retail...it was forced upon Manufacturers who "had" to include it at a certain point in their New Computers even though in MOST cases the Computers were really designed to work on XP and this caused havoc given the need to double RAM in most cases, even now many new computers still are sold with insufficient resources.

THat being said, many manufacturers of periferals, components like sound and video cards, Network Adapters broke with the tradition of providing UPGRADED DRIVERS for Vista as it was just not worth it for the FEW who bought Vista for their XP COmputers over the Counter. Also VIsta was quite different from win 2000-XP and didnt work on older Drivers.

The answer to your question is most likely there are NO Vista Drivers for your Network Adapter if they are not listed your Computer Website (which is common and traditional for past New O.S.). With Desktops the solution is a bit easier especially if you have independant Modules especially: Video, Sound, Network "cards' as plug ins not integrated with the Mother Board. Notebook Motherboards are all integrated and it would be difficult to find the exact Network Adapter and change it as you can easily do with a Desktop or just ADD a Network Adapter to one of the Expansion jacks that is compatable with Vista.

You Should first try to call the Computer Manufacturer to see if they have upgraded Drivers for your Computer. Usually the problem is with the sound, video, network and you are lucky the rest work.

SOLUTION: If you really like using Vista and want to stick with it just buy an EXTERNAL NETWORK ADAPTER for your Notebook; they come in either USB or PCMCIA versions, making sure they are compatable with VISTA.. They come with their own Installation Disk which contains the Drivers. The other obvious solution is to just reinstall Windows XP *shrug*. There is little improvment over XP and your Computer will run much faster on the Minimum Ram Memory VISTA Requires which is 2 gb and that is in most cases BARE MINIMUM. On 2gb XP FLIES! I see no advantage in "upgrading" to VIsta, especially if it poses such serious problems as a dysfucntional Wireless Network Adapter Card.

Cheers :)

Network card needs replaced, think have wrong card.

Check the cards next to one another. The older Win95 system may have used an ISA style board while the newer one is probably a PCI slot board. If the boards are the same length with the same notches....they should work. And Vista will probably have the device driver for the old NIC card.

Vist driver for n/w card

This is the best you can do, if these Winbond drivers don't work, you'll need to buy a new card. They're pretty cheap, around $20 or so. Make sure it's Vista certified!
