It sounds like you have a PS2 slim. Get you a couple of Q-tips, and bottle of Windex. You will hear some people tell you to use Rubbbing alcohol, it is not good to do that since the Slim PS2 lens is not glass. Dampen (not soaked or dripping wet)one tip of the Q-tip and place it on the lens of the laser. Spin the Q-tip between your fingertips to polish the lens. Once you swab the entire lens( all crevices and surface), Use the dry tip of the Q-tip to dry the lens. Inspect the lens to see if you left any lint. Try out a disc and see of your No data goes away.
If you do not have any luck, your lens is probably melted from working so hard and long to read a dirty or scratched disc. If your comfortable and electronically talented, you will need to replace the laser. Yopu can get replacement lasers on Ebay.
If your not Comfortable with replacing your own laser, My service the Playstation Clnic, is one of the most reasonably priced services in the world. I will replace your laser for $39.95 and that includes return shipping and a 90 day warranty. Check out www.playstationclinic.com.

First of all the new laser lens will not allow your Slim to read NTSC UC games if you have a PAL european Console.
There is no reason the New laser should have not read the disc unless it Came to you damaged. It sounds like you know how to replace a laser.
