So, I don't even change the drum at all? I'm 53 years old and not very mechanically inclined, so can you walk me through my problem starting at the beginning of how to even get to where I need to be to try to resolve this problem.

If you replace the drum as you have been told and the problem persists, check for a loose connection around the copy lamp and its circuit and rectify.

The old drum is connected to the cartridge through a round steel coloured pin from both left and right side you can make the pin little upwards with the help of screw driver and then slightly pull it out with the help of proper tool .
note:do all the opretion in the printer off condition if yo do in printer on condition your new drum will not be excepted and error will occur, and donot remove any wire from the drum unit side connected to the printer with a screw in on condition it will ask for the reset code, that will create more problem.it is hundred percent problem of the drum but if problem presists after changing drum you can also try changing whole drum unit as it is not to costly.if does not get fixed keep me updated as i am having the same toner in front of me at present,so i can guide you more clearly further.
rate the solution as " FIXYA"if helped by this.thanks in advance. wish u success.best of luck. bye

Hi-

Try cleaning the inside of the printer by removing toners ans using a damp clothe, clean it gently or if you have a device cleaner for the printer try accessing it, then make sure when you install the toner, you install it correctly because for some reason there is something in there in which is blocking the laser light thats why you are getting half the page blank. I dont think that its a problem with the drum since if it requires replacement it should give you an error code or error lights. Best i got.

Thanks or using fixya, update us or keep us posted on the progress that it will make.

Alternatively you can use a soft dam cloth, and clear the rollers and plates. the same are visible to the eye, when you remove the toner.

    Thanks

Your drum cartridge should have a little rod that you can carefully pull out and in. This cleans a wire that charges your drum

You must print a lot of black and white documents. The problem is with the black developer in your imaging unit. The problem can be fixed by either replacing your imaging unit for $100+ or you can fix it yourself by cleaning the imaging unit. I have a link to describe the problem and how you can clean it using simple household tools. http://www.fixya.com/support/r4120906-clean_developer_blades_samsung_clp_300 Hope this helps you.

HP laserjet 5000gn when i print, output smears ink on 2 sides. not a toner issue cause changed toners already. someone says printer is telling me something and might be a warning of

If by smearing you mean the print is also rubbing off? Then you definately have a fuser unit issue. The fusing unit is the assembly that heats up and "fuses" the toner onto the page. When these start to go bad, usually on one edge or the other the print will smear/double image/wipe off of the effected area. One test you can do to verify a fuser problem is to print a page and then when the page is about half way thru the prcess, shut the printer off. Open the top and remove the toner cartridge, pull out the page and see if the lower part is not smeared. Basically what your checking is to see if the print is ok BEFORE it goes thru the fuser. Based on your description I would suspect your fuser is going bad.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Colored ink is smearing on the page when I print

Did you change the toner?Developer unit? When did it occured?

FIRST: the copier must be cleaned and vacumed, it may be that toner falls onto transfer section and that causes the problem, you may also have problem with yellow developing unit or drum or transfer cleaning blade.

My printer worked very well until I changed the toner. I see dust around the back toner. I brought the generic toner. The store manager said that was the problem. Then I brought new HP toner. It is the...

Smeared output can result when you refeed a printed page into the printer to make a double-sided page. This happens because the rubber rollers that grip the paper to pull it into the printer can pick up toner from the first side’s printing and smear it. So before replacing parts, this is an easy thing to check. Printing multiple pages consecutively will make the pages print progressively cleaner or you can clean the rollers with rubbing alcohol.

Smeared toner also happens because the nonstick coating on the fusing roller is scratched or has baked-on debris. This can happen if the printer is in a dirty environment especially. If you are comfortable removing the fuser, you can try to clean it with a soft cloth and alcohol, but make sure you let it cool down first!

Finally, if this does not resolve your issue then make sure the fuser is heating; toner that is not heated properly will fall from the page and smear. If the thermostat is bad or the fuser not working properly, you will most likely need to replace the entire fuser assembly. This will be pretty expensive to repair so hopefully it's one of those other issues.

Can smears when priting be fixed

Have you tried cleaning the corona wire on the drum unit (the blue slider bit)?

Replace the drum unit (assuming you have already replaced the toner cart?)

To check the remaining drum life press the go button 3 times. A report should print out with the info on. Even though you may have some remaining life, the drum can fail early.

If the dots/marks are repeating about 3 times down the page it is almost certainly the drum unit that has the problem.

Printer smears on cold print

The toner cartridge sounds like the problem to me. Did you refill it? Or have it done? It sounds like an incompatible brand......toner is very model specific, and not just 'any' will do, and it often doen't mix well with the remaining toner i the cartridge if it is not completely disassembled and cleaned out. Just curious

Prints roller smear marks

Laser printers do not use Ink. The problem is most likely a defect on the drum, which in this model printer, is part of the toner cartridge. Replace the black toner cartridge with a known good one and test.
