Hi and welcome to fixya.

From your description of the problem it sounds like you may have the "closed caption" turned on in text mode.
Look on your remote control for a button labeled CC or CAPTION and press it repeatedly until it says OFF.
Otherwise you may find it in your tv`s menu under "closed caption" .
You just need to turn it off.

Hope this help and happy holidays.

My JVC model AV-20F476 has a black-out box that covers most of the bottom half of the screen.

Go into menu and under CLOSED CAPTIONS look to see if TEXT is engaged---if it is set to text 1 turn it off or to text 2,3,4, etc

Text was a feature never really used but it is there, some cable boxes also have this setting/feature.

Let me know if you have questions.

It sounds like your black (K) or Black/Yellow (KY) head needs to be replaced.
The problem appears to be in the top half of the black head.
Without knowing more (like what make/model the printer is) I can't help more than that.

My Motorola Rival's screen has been black for a day and a half.

Hello,

The problem with the phone is that the flex on the screen of your phone is bad that is why your phone cannot display.

All you need to do is to change the flex on the screen of your phone and you will see that your phone will display.

Change the flex on the screen of your phone and your phone screen display will be back.

Take care

Black box is taking up bottom half of the Screen

Check your closed-caption settings and make sure it's turned off. You'll probably find it's now set to text mode. The set is blanking out the part of the screen where text would be displayed, but there isn't any.

How to know what numbers mean that are in the black box in middle of screen?

This could be one of several different problems. The MOST common cause of complaints of characters appearing in a black box in center of screen that we see @ my service center is due to customer having the "text" option of the closed-captioning feature enabled (often, inadvertently; navigating the on-screen menus and employing the multiple feature options of modern TV's can be problematic for even the most well-versed of us!); the user can readily tell if this is the source of the complaint by noting whether the characters displayed change from channel to channel, as they will if the display in question is simply the text function of closed-captioning. It is also possible that the display is an indication of the unit being in the "service mode", which is a feature employed by service technicians in diagnosing & repairing the set. More descriptive information on exactly what is being displayed---i.e., the size of the box being seen, exactly what characters are shown, etc.---would be helpful in determining just what this problem is about...perhaps p2412 could post a picture of what is being displayed?

A black box is covering half of screen

Look in the menu for the "captions" heading. Once in the closed captions, turn off the "text" heading. This text mode is putting up the black box on the tv

My picture looks like cartoon characters from new commercials

I had recently noticed the same thing happening with mine. Then the left half of the screen turned black and has various red, green, and blue vertical lines. The right half of the screen shows has the picture just fine. It's exactly right down the middle of the screen.
