How do you replace the ink cartridges, i am following the instructions, but i must be doing something wrong, the thing will not stay out so i can change them?

You should be able to open and close the cartridge access door, this should automatically trigger the carriage assembly to move to the middle where you can change the cartridges. After a few minutes most printers will typically move the carriage back due to inactivity.

Sometimes the ink cartridge carrier won't automatically move to its loading position even when the printer is on and the cover is open. Follow the steps below:

1. Unplug the printer from the power source.

2. With the cover open, hold the solid white strip that connects from the carrier assembly to the ink cartridge carrier and gently slide the cartridge carrier to the center of the printer.

3. Remove the used cartridges.

4. Load the new cartridges. Close the cover.

5. Plug the printer back to the power source.

We have just put a new black ink cartridge in our printer and now it won't print. The computer says it is error# 5200 and to see the user guide. The manuals don;t have any info to help. I have tried...

Error 5200:

Start with printer powered off
1. Open cover of printer and verify that the ink cartridge carriage is not in the center of the printer. Leave cover open.
2. Unplug the electrical cord from the printer and wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug electrical cord back in, when ink cartridge carriage moves to the center of the printer quickly unplug the electrical cord again. This should leave the ink cartridge carriage in the center of the printer so you can get to it.
4. Lift up the gray arm that surrounds the ink cartridges.
5. Remove the entire ink cartridge holder (not just the ink cartridges). It will lift out easily as a unit. Lower the gray arm that you lifted to remove the cartridge holder.
6. Close printer cover. Plug electricity back in.
7. There should be a message about checking the ink cartridge on the display (I can

The ink cartridge wont come to center

Turn of printer. Turn it on, watch the carriage move, when it goes to the other side quickly unplug your printer, it should stop somewhere along the middle of the printer, now u can freely move it by hand to the position that you wanted, you can now remove the cartridge and replace it with a new one, after doing what you need to do just push the carriage towards the right side where it should be parked. Good luck!

Hp printer will not detect new ink cartridge has been installed. Thought it was the cartridge, bought a new one and it still says it needs replaced.

I have had similar problem with my HP C6180. Over several months I have replaced Lt. Magenta at least 6 times. Finally I got a "Cannot Print" message after the 6th full cartridge. I tried removing/replacing cartridges, doing a hard reset, and clearing the hardware failure status (press # and *, enter code 1,2,3, scroll to 'System Configuration' press OK then scroll to 'Hardware Confifuration) - all to no avail.
I decided to remove the BIOS battery. Only do this if you're ready trash your C6180 and able to buy a new printer immediately! Remove 2 the black screws holding the left side panel in place and remove it to reveal the circuit board. Remove 5 silver screws securing the circuit board, and carefully tilt it up. On the back side, center front, is a silver 3 Volt Lithium battery; remove it. Cover the printer and let stand overnight. I did this, and when I put the battery back in and powered up the printer, error messages were gone, and it printed normally. I was lucky, but if you're prepared to take a total loss on your C6180, this might just work. My theory is that the hardware "forgot" it' error message.

How do i change ink cartridges.

turn the printer on and open the cover and the carriage will move to the middle or left, then remove your empty cartridge and exchange it for a new one, making sure that you remove the tape and any /or plastic pieces and re-seat into the carriage. making sure to snap in place. close the cover and perform nozzle test.

I need to program in the new ink cartridge

Thanks for choosing fixya.com

New ink cartridges should be auto detected by your printer once installed.

To install a new cartridge depends on the specific brand/model of your printer. Most time you can (with the printer on) open the plastic door in the front and the cartridge tray will move into position. Remove the old cartridge, remove the tape or plastic protector from the bottom of the new cartridge and put it into the ink carriage.

If this does not work for your printer it may have a button or menu option to move the carriage over. You should be able to find a down loadable manual at the printers manufacturer website.

Hope this helps, if not please ask further.

Ink cartridge carrier jam

If possible, shut off the printer completely and manually move the ink carriage to where the cartridges can be swapped out. turn it back on and try again. try to see if some mechanism that holds the missing cartridge in place has swung down and is bumping into something, preventing the carriage from moving past a certain point.
