Please don't take offense at this question, but did you check the little volume knob on the upper right side? It's easy to accidentally change the volume while handling the unit.

If that's okay, you might try doing a hard reset to get the unit back to factory settings. This will lose any data you have saved.
1. Unplug power and USB cables.
2. Remove the silver faceplate by pulling with a fingernail in the notch beneath the logo.
3. Press the reset button at the right side of the screen for about three seconds.
4. Connect to external power.

1390t stopped saying street names and only says distance before turn

Some voices on the satnav don't support street names. It's likely that the voice which used to has become unselected or corrupted.
1. Press Tools, then Settings, then Language and you will see a setting for Voice. Press Voice and change to a different one. If there's not another voice there or the other voice file is corrupted you can download more.
2. Connect your satnav to your computer. Download and install webupdater from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 and your satnav will look for updates. When it has finished it will give you an option to download voices. Tick the ones you want and click next. When they have been downloaded to your satnav and you have disconnected your satnav from your computer select a new voice as described in paragraph 1 above.

Garmin 760 stopped talking was fine yesterday

Make sure the volume isn't muted. There is a separate volume adjustment for Navigation (voice) in addition to media player. Can be a bad speaker. Make sure a TTS voice is selected. More info at these links:

Sudden loss of voice/sound on TomTom 720

This is a warranty cloaim and is not unknown for TomTom GPS. You might want to consider changing it for a more reliable brand

Gps will not announce street names, highway's, etc. Important note: it had been announcing this data since I bought the GPS in December but just recently stopped doing so.

You have to change the voice to a computer voice. Go to where you choose voices on the main menu Change preferences > Voice preferences > Change voice. Find a voice with the word "computer" in the name and select it. At that point you will be asked what you want to be announced. By the way, this is called "text to speech" in TomTom talk.

Deleted voice

Hello Sallilou,

If you deleted the voice files without backing them up you can try running the Garmin WebUpdater software. This program updates the operating software for your GPS and can be used to update maps and other files. It may be possible to reinstall the voice files using WebUpdater. (To download the WebUpdater software go here.)

Some of the Garmin products do have voice files available for download via the Garmin website. (Namely the Quest product.) However the Nuvi 200W does not appear to have such files immediately available for download.

If you aren't able to update the voice files this way I would suggest you give Garmin a call directly.

Best Regards,
Ken

Question
: My nuvi is supposed to speak street names when giving voice prompts but it doesn't. How can I fix this?
Answer: All of the Garmin automotive GPS units that speak street names are also loaded with basic voice prompts (i.e. 'Turn Right in 500 feet') as well as 'text-to-speech' voices that speak street names. If one of the basic types of voice prompts has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.
In order to change this setting on the nüvi line of products, please follow these steps:
  1. In the Main Menu, tap on the Settings icon.
  2. Tap on "Locale"
  3. The second line on this screen has a picture of a mouth. To the right, the current voice for the GPS device is listed. Tap it to change the voice.
  4. Select a voice that is labeled with (TTS) at the end. These voices will speak street names.
  5. Select "OK". The voice has now been changed.
The device should now speak street names.
