It may be safer to try and use a cd laser leanse cleaner, go buy one for the ps2 these are great i have one and it works for me as i have had the same problem, get one with a liquid for cleaning the leanse you may just have dust on the laser leanse and the cleaner will get rid of it try and use the cleaner each month to assure you that the prob wont crop up again.

I fixed the problem myself by going to YouTube and playing a video that showed me how to open the unit safely. When I opened the PS 2 Slim Model, I discovered that the threaded rod that moves the lens had been jarred out of place (I was later told by my son that he had knocked the unit off the table). I carefully put the end of the rod back into place and put the unit back together. It works like a dream now, and my son thinks his mother is a genius. For those who are experiencing the problem of not loading past main menu, and especially if you are experiencing a clicking noise, I would definitely recommend checking out the laser drive rod. Good luck.
