My xbox appeared black & white in my tv monitor

There might be a problem with the jack inserts on the T.V. have you tried wiggling the jacks while there plugging in to the T.V. and also make sure the same cord is securely connected in the back of the console.

Xbox original not showing color screen

Put the xbox on another tv. If it is in color then, the AV inputs may be bad. If that is the case, you may need to buy an AV-UHF/VHF converter, or plug them into a VCR.

Black and White Only

I had a similar problem when I first connected my son's xbox using the Audio/Video cable (red, white, & yellow connectors). I connected the cable to the TV correctly, but incorrectly selected "component" as the input on the TV setup. Result was black and white display. Switch your TV input mode to "AV" or "Audio/Video" and you will get color.

FYI, "component" TV mode is only used with devices that use the red, green, & blue connectors.
