Go down to your local gas bar and pick up a couple bottles of gas line antifreeze or de-icer and pour them in.They contain alcohol which will clean the ice out with some time. Give it an hour and try to start the car then. If it doesn't let it sit another hour or so and then it should. It won't hurt to add another bottle of de-icer either. At the same time place a trouble light if you have one or if not any light as close to the throttle body as you can and leave it turned on with the hood closed. A 100 watt bulb is best but a 60 watt will do. Don't use those new screw in flourescents, they don't provide enough heat. This should thaw out lines under the hood. Hope this helps.

My 98 durango wouldn't start in below zero temps. Pretty sure the fuel lines are frozen, considering I didn't have a gas cap (now I have one...). Can I add 2 bottles of Heet to the 1/2 full tank? And would...

Do you have ethanol gas in your area? If so, ethanol is around 10% alcohol. So you'd have far more alcohol than you could possibly get with 2 bottles of heat. Doubtful your fuel lines are frozen. Are you just guessing or have you tested fuel pressure and volume

How do I no if I have frozen gas lines

You will most likely have no fuel supply. Today's gasoline contains additives in the fuel that help prevent the fuel from freezing. Unless you are constantly running your fuel tank very low ( moisture collects in the tank ) and driving in deep snow in a very cold climate, it would be unlikely the gas will be frozen

Where do I aim a blow dryer to unthaw fuel line on 2001 Mercury Sable Ls

The fuel line runs from the gas tank (underneath) the car up to the injection rail on the engine. Since most of the fuel line is inaccessible, trying to thaw it with a hair dryer is not a good option. You could try blowing the hair dryer on the fuel filter. A better option is to get a couple bottles of HEET at your local auto parts store. Put this in the gas tank. If the fuel line is completely frozen, HEET is not likely to work. You will need to bring the vehicle inside a warm shop. If the problem is water in the fuel, HEET will prevent it from freezing in the future. A gas line will not freeze, unless there is contamination in the fuel. A fuel filter change is a must in this situation, and may solve the problem.

Car wouldnt start after being hooked up to a battery charger for 24 hours

It could be water frozen in your fuel system (fuel line, fuel filter, fuel pump or pickup or fuel rail). If you can get the car into a garage try letting it warm up, otherwise wait for a warmer day, to try starting it. If it is water in the fuel, you can add "dry gas" to your fuel which is an alcohol product designed to be an antifreeze and to absorb the water. However, if the water is already frozen in your system, this won't help without warming the car up first in some way. If you haven't changed your fuel filter in the last year, I would do that as well. Water can easily build up in a filter and freeze there in extremely cold weather. If this problem is water related, also fill the tank completely with a fresh quality gasoline, and add dry gas for the next several fill ups to help get any water in your fuel system out to keep it from happening again.

Frozen gas line

I'm assuming you got this fixed already but to prevent it from happening again keep fuel more than half tank and with every fill add a fuel additive that prevents freezing

Frozen gas line on car

If it is frozen, adding Heet will no thaw it. It has to mix with the fuel first to prevent freezing. Pretty unusual for water to be in gas but it could be possible. Don't over look other fuel situations, i.e. fuel filter, fuel pump etc.

Frozen fuel line

The fuel line should run under your vehicle along the frame on the drivers side.
