Speakrs don't work on new HP Pavilion desktop.

If you're using Windows XP, go to the Control Panel, then double-click on Sound, then go to the Audio tab and make sure the playback device is set to your Realtek output.

If you're using Windows Vista, go to Control Panel and click on Hardware and Sound, then click on Sound. Make sure your Realtek device is selected with a green check mark. If it isn't, just click on it and then click the Set as Default button down below. Vista sound configuration is kinda quirky, and it does do some kind of detection when you plug a cable into an audio jack, so you might leave this screen up while you plug your speakers into the green audio jack in the sound card and see if it pops anything weird up.

How do I turn on the speakers on my HP lap top?

There are buttons near the screen that should do this. Or it might be that your sound card is muted in which case click on the speaker icon in the bottom right hand corner and when the volume control comes up click on the mute button to activate them. hope this helps

There is no sound coming from my computer on either my monitor or desktop speakers. I have checked my volume controls in all of the panels and they are up but I still have no sound.

Hello.
The things you should do:
1- Make sure your speakers are on( properly connected to power supply).there should be a LED indicator ON
2- Make sure the cable coming out of your speakers or monitor ( Mini plug connector) is properly connected to the audio out jack in your computer.

Before continue:
In order to be sure all is ok, unplug the mentioned mini plug in touch the end of the plug with your finger, if step 1 is ok, you should hear a noise coming from your speaker, set the volume control in your speakers to an apropiate level, (don't forget to plug in it again).
Is everything ok ? if yes, continue:

3- In the volume controls in windows:

The left most control is the master make sure the checkbox ( Mute all) is not checked, the same apply to the one labeled wave( this one reproduce the sounds stored in your PC and the ones coming from the mic, if you are using one).
Note: to use the mic you wil have to clear the corresponding checkbox.
If this doesn't solve your problem you will have to check for the audio drivers.
Let me know if you are still having problems.

No sound coming from new hp monitor through windows vista

Alright, I got the answer for ya, first, go into your control panel. Click on Sounds and Audio Devices. Listed in this window should be the name of your sound card. Under that, should be Device Volume, and at the bottom, should be the Speaker Settings, click into Advanced, next to speaker volume. It should show you a diagram of a monitor with the amount of speakers it has selected shown next to it. Where it says Speaker Setup, click and then scroll down until you see 3 settings labeled Monitor Stereo, Monitor Stand Stereo, and Monitor Mounted Stereo. Whatever one enables the sound will be the one you want to stick with.
