Question about Canon Printers & Copiers

1 Answer

The port to which the printer is connected is not supported.

I have just bought a Canon LPB5000 laser printer and have difficulties installing it on my acer, windows vista computer. The error I get is in the title, and I have no idea how to check a port for a printer.

As i read your problem, it appears that you are having difficulty installing your Canon Laser Printer on the parallel port of a Home PC running windows Vista.

My first piece of advice to you is to verify that all of your cables are connected in accordance with the installation instructions that came with the printer.

Secondly, If you have already installed the printer using the windows default drivers (if available), try updating the drivers by inserting the driver disc that came with the printer into your CD ROM. Then go to Start->Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Printers. Right click the printer you want to update and click "run as administrator" then click properties. Click advanced, click new driver and follow the directions in the wizard to install the new drivers. the CD Canon often supplies may not have the drivers readily acessable on them, so you may have to back out and run the install program for your specific printer to install the drivers on your hard drive and then locate them in the wizard.

You may also consider downloading and installing the latest drivers for your printer from the Canon website.

The port you want to install the printer on is most likely LPT1 if you're using a parallel cable (normal printer cable), or you may need to create a new TCP/IP port on your computer if you're using a network printer (but by the sounds of your question, you probably are just using the regular printer cable, or maybe a USB cable, which works the same as described above).

Usb port broken canot plug in cable

Sorry to hear that you have this problem. This would be an easier fix if it were on a desktop computer tower or on a laptop, or on a laser printer even. However, most USB ports within inkjet printers are so contained inside the casing that they are nearly impossible to get to without removing the covers. That is where the difficulty comes in...Most inkjet printers are not designed to be serviced inside by anyone other than the manufacturer's authorized service center. The problem is that there are no clear instructions on how to dissemble the printer, so you run a very high risk of breaking something going in or trying to reassemble it.

Having said that, I suggest you call Canon technical support and explian the problem. They will be able to tell you if it is a replaceable part and the cost to order it direct.

Having difficulty downloading canon mp250 software/printer drivers.

In most cases the printer driver software can have errors while being in use or is shut down.

Dowload the drivers from the links below:

http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support

http://software.canon-europe.com/

So to reset remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and then connect the Printer ONLY WHEN PROMPTED, to be detected as a new hardware as it will be installed. Now check the printer properties to see the ink levels.
Activate head cleaning before a test is taken. Sometimes it is possible that the head is not reacting to the need of the PC command or can be an issue with ink drying or poor ink cartridge contacts.

Thank you for using Fixya

Will the Canon PIXMA ip2700 printer be compatable with a hp omni 100-5050. If so how do I do it.

Hi. I believe it's compatible. You can connect your printer via USB to an HP Omni 100 5050. If you're having difficulties finding the USB ports you may refer to this link http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02552057.pdf (number 2 illustration). I hope you still have the installation CD for the printer but if not you may try downloading the drivers on http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Consumer_Products/products/printers/InkJet/PIXMA_iP_series/PIXMA_iP2700.aspx?type=download&page=1

Hope this helps. :)
