I have a Acer Aspire One D255. Worked great until today - now it's stating the default gateway is not available. It shows I am connected to the wireless router in my home which i have been acessing for...

Below are the instructions on how to power-cycle your network. This will fix a lot of out-of-the-blue network issues.
Unplug the power to your modem and router. Also, turn off your computer. Now that everything is powered down, wait 60 seconds. Then, plug the power back in to ONLY your modem. Wait another 60 seconds. Plug the power cable back in to your router. Wait another 60 seconds and then turn on your computer. Once your computer loads Windows and you see your desktop with all of your icons, give it a chance to connect to your network and open Internet Explorer.
If this does not work, then I need more information about your network. First, how many computers do you have on this network? If you have other computers on this network, do they connect with an ethernet cable or wirelessly? Can the other computers get on the Internet, or is it just this PC which is having the issue? What brand of router do you have? Which version of Windows are you running on your Aspire One? And, finally, do you have DSL or cable Internet (if you have DSL, obtain your DSL username and password - as well as any other pertinent settings - from your ISP)? Please reply to this answer if the above instructions did not fix your issue. If the above instructions worked, then disregard these questions.

Hi

Silly question but have you had to put in a password code or serial no at all ????

or

try this

go to the wireless icon on your taskbar bottom right
click on it to open the box that says wireless network connection status
go to bottom left of that box and click properties
now go up to wireless networks
now click on the name of your router that it is having problems connecting to
right click on it and go down to remove it
now close the two boxes that are now on your desktop
and in a few seconds windows will show you a small box by the wireless icon in taskbar bottom left of your screen telling you that wireless connections are available
open the box again go to the name of your router click on it and go down to connect
hopefully this will fix it

i hope so

good luck

I have an acer aspire one d255 netbook and i can not connect to the internet,

did you try connecting directly with the cable?
If your trying to get on the internet with a wireless connection.and running WINDOWS, .and I am assuming you DO have a wireless router all set up and configured to broadcast the signal (not hidden) ....first we have to determine if the problem is at the router or at the laptop AND at what point its getting stuck ... so first try this

try resetting the router (disconnect the power to it for a few minutes) next --be sure the wifi switch is enabled on the netbook---next---go to CONTROL PANEL>NETWORK CONNECTIONS--right click oin your wifi card and choose properties--highlight INTERNET PROTOCOL and choose properties and be sure "OPTAIN IP ADDRESS AUTOMATICALLY" is checked--Does the laptop "SEE" the router?
You will need your SSID to logon to the router(internet)

Need assistance starting up my acer aspire computer m1641

Timegatewood,

That would depend on how you would like to get the internet connection to your ACER.

Option 1

Ethernet line
Benefits: Faster connection, easier setup, more secure
Cons: Wires must be physically routed requiring drilling through walls or passing through vent openings.

What you'll need:
Router
Cat 5 ethernet cable from router to ACER and to your HOST PC
Ethernet network interface cards (NIC) in both PC's
any length of cable exceeding 100-150 feet will likely need a network Hub to boost signal strength

Option 2
Wireless
Benefits: Wiless acces to host PC(no drilling through walls etc.) can connect multiple PC's by simply adding a wirless card to new PC
Cons: prone to interference, less secure, setting up security protocols can be cumbersome

What you'll need:
Wireless Router/Access Point(AP)
Wirless adapter for remote PC (ACER)
Someone who is knowledgable about Wireless security to setup the firewall settings in the router.

OK so now that you have the options you can decide which is best for you.

Ethernet : If your willing to drill holes or pass through vents this will give you a faster connection
Wireless: This makes for a no mess/no fuss connection but at the expense of security and potential interference from cordless phones etc..

If you need help setting up your Network connection after you decide which you'd like please feel free to ask.

Thanks
Dave
