Does anyone know if there might be a reset on this machine? Even internally? It was working just fine for all these years & then all of a sudden I got this flashing error message. I would greatly appreciate ANY help!

Re: SVC-1 Error Message
The only reset you can do on these is to unplug it for several hours and then plug it back in. This will reset the microprocessor .
This error could be many different problems and are usually not solved by resetting the machine. You may have a laser pick up, microprocessor that is bad, a memory ic bad, a voltage regulator bad. There is just no way to tell without troubleshooting it with the proper tools. Most error codes for this type of unit do not tell the service technician exactly what the problem is. It will only point them in the right direction.
Sorry this was not more help, but I have fixed a few of these with that same error code and it was different problems every time.
And please don't give me a bad rating for answering your question honestly. I have been repairing audio equipment for almost 18 years, I really do know what I am talking about.
I wish you luck, and hope that the reset works for you. Let me know if I can be any more help to you.

Hello If a disc has been put in the slot of the disc in play, Remove the disc, whose number is displayed, and press stop button. Because of light or noise, the changer has detected a disc in the lot of the disc being played, even though it is empty. Check whether there is a disc in the displayed slot. With front panel closed, hold down "STOP " button for atl least four seconds or more.
Lets give it a try. The purchasedate will be 1991 (HI).
I'll suppose you allready cleaned the laserunit.
You can try to clean the laserslides, sometimes they are sticky and dry. Then the laser is not fast and precise enough to read the index of your CD.
Clean them with some alcohol on cottontips.
When they are really clean, use just a little teflonoil to make sure the laserunit slides very smoothly.
If the cleaning does not fix the fault, it is possible that the laser is weak, or there are some problems in the electronics in the CD player. This is not something you will be able to service yourself, unless you are properly trained, have experience, and have the proper setup to perform CD player servicing.
In most cases these CD players are not cost effective to service. You can contact the orignal manufacture for details or any recomendations.
Dan, I know its been a couple of years since you posted this question, but i just stumbled upon this. Did you ever find the parts you needed? I have a CD880 that shows disc error all the time. This unit has been boxed up for the last 4 years and has hardly ever been used. I have no idea why the error message issue is happening. However, I have not been able to find an answer to my problem in my area. If you are still looking for a spare CD880 for parts I know that mine would be a good choice. Let me know if you may want to check it out.
I have the same problem - looked in manual - that means it needs service - spoke to Harmon Kardon - the only place that is still set up to potentially fix this problem is in California - I am in NY - apparently a certain kind of jig is needed and no one else has anymore....I am going to call the place in California back to see what they charge - but I am afraid the whole thing could cost a bunch - but I love this machine.
