Portable DVD player

The player will not operate properly using the supplied car power cable but operates perfectly using the home power lead. I have used an inverter in the car and plugged the home power lead into this, this method works. Could you provide a possible solution why the car power lead will not work.

I've overcome the problem by using an inverter thus enabling me to use the mains power adapter in the car. An observation: The lead for the in car adapter is 24 AWD and the power adapter is 20 AWD, would the in car adapter work if the lead was also 20 AWD?

How do I recharge the battery? This is a portable DVD player with a battery pack and the instructions say recharge battery before useing, so I put the battery in place and plug in the power cord and left...

Hello, You are doing it right! the battery should be charged with in the 24 hour period. There are two things to consider : One, is the possibility that the rechargeable battery has dried(due to wear and tear)and is not accepting the charge or The second possibility is that the power supply isn't working properly, therefore, not charging the battery.
It is possible to know at least if one of the two is working just by operating the DVD player while connected with the AC adapter. Turn the DVD on and play a disc, if the unit operates, this eliminates a defective power supply and only leaves a defective battery pack, if it doesn't work than consider the power supply defective and repairs are due. As to where to buy a replacement part is for someone else to answer. Good luck!

Unfortunately if the door is latched but with power then the loading motor section is struck or failed. If there is no power at all the power supply unit has failed. you will need to check on the SMPS unit . Check my tips column for SMPS maintenance.

I'm getting no power to my speakers when i turn on the power wheel on my speaker, the blue light doesn't come on...all drivers check out and device is "working properly"is this a sound card issue?...

I assume you use a set of PC speakers with own power connector.
If the power connector is plugged in properly and the power source is operating flawless, then either the power cable or the internal power supply are broken.
The soundcard has by 100% nothing to do with the voltage control of your speakers. All it sends is an audio signal (Unless you relay on USB speakers, in which case the power actually MAY come from the computer, but I excluded that since you said you're using a soundcard, and those don't provide USB output).

Summary: Cable or PowerSupply or Power source not operating properly. (Or the switch). Either way, you should not open any high voltage electrical components as that may lead to a deadly electrical shock. Please consider an electrician or buy new speakers, if switching the power source doesn't help.

If the DVD is connected to the TV properly using the yellow, white & red AV cable and the TV is switched to AV and there is still no picture, plug the yellow lead from the back of the DVD player into the green socket. If you see a black and white picture now the DVD output is on Progressive Scan mode. See user manual to turn off Progressive Scan mode.

My dvd will stop playing after it plays for about 90 seconds

You can try to reset the dvd player to factory specification with the default function in the preference section of the set-up. Use your remote control and push the set-up button. Use the up and down arrows to highlight the preference section and press enter . Youwill now have entered in to the sub-menu, use the up and down arrows to highlight default and press enter. This will set the dvd player back to factory settings. This should restore the dvd player to normal operation. If it does not restore the dvd player to normal operation, you may have a problem with the drive motor circuits. This could be a failure of components in the power supply circuit for the motor or the the motor itself. For these type of problems it is best to consult with Phillips, they will have all the proper service information to service the problem. You can call their customer support at this telephone number. 1-888-744-5477. Give them the model number of the dvd player and the problem with the intermittent drive operation. They will be able to how to get the unit serviced and repaired. I hope this information helps you with your problem.

Salutations jwatts325,

There are specific models that have auxillary monitors that will be powered from the main unit. Unfortunately if its not configured with an auxiliary unit there isn't a way to chain two portable units together.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Here is the link to the owner's manual and the installation manual for your player; http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/support/details/0,,2076_310070347_38318,00.html You have to register to access the info, but it is free. The player runs from the car battery power source, so it can be run from a transformer in your home - available from any good hardware store. The player itself specifies a power source of 14.4 voltsDC preferred, 10.8 - 15.1vDC is allowable. maximum current drawn is 10Amps. If you take these specifications to a hardware store they will be able point you in the right direction. a car battery charger could do the job, but i would recommend putting it through a battery not directly to the player as this will possibly damage it. make sure you put a fuse in the system near the player i would recommend a 5A fuse, if that blows too much then try a 6 or 8 A fuse - dont go over 10 amps and make sure it is a quick blowing type. If you have a charging car battery in your home, be very careful to ensure there is proper ventilation - when charging, the battery gives off hydrogen gas which disperses without problem from a car engine bay, but can build up to explosive concentrations in a building without adequate airflow. Some batteries have a small connector for a breather tube, which can be led outside through a window or a hole drilled in the wall. other batteries need to be boxed, and a breather tube put on the box. If you are careful about the hydrogen gas then this can be quite safe - make sure you keep the battery well maintained - follow the safety instructions about dealing with acid, insulate the battery terminals properly to avoid shock, sparks or power surges. Box the battery in a vented box - make the lining acid resistant (polyester or epoxy resin for instance) if possible. Simpler may be to charge the battery elsewhere and connect it alone to the player - you will have to move the battery around a lot which is inherently a bad idea in many ways. still make sure it is fused regardless. Easiest would be a proper mains transformer/rectifier as described. there is no other reason why you would not be able to use this player at home. Hope this helps, please ask again if you need more info :)
