I unpluggged the tv and let it rest for a while and when I turned it back on everything was fine, we have had a lot of thunder and lightening lately so maybe that had something to do with it ?? Hopefully it will be ok if not i am sure you will be hearing form me again. Thanks

You can likely buy a replacement remote here:
Remotes.com
'Universal' remotes exist only in your dreams; there is no such thing since the manufacturers cannot agree on a basic code set that would work with any set. None of them can control every function of every brand and model made.

Colors dont line up, black square,in middle

with no model or make, all i can suggest is that one of the convergence amplifiers is acting up(usually there are two used in most rear projection sets) they may have to be replace at the same time to avoid doing the same thing later on. look for a heavy metal heat dissipator tha is where they usually mount.

your captioning or "text" is on. usually inside the tv menu. if not its your cable or dish box has captioning on. black box usually means its in text mode instead of CC thus the black box rather than text

Black square

hmmm...the black square syndrome..sounds like the picture in picture settings are unhappy..check those, to see if maybe it's on some sort of timer, and accessing a non channel(which might explain the black square).
