How do I password reset

Hi Kim,

If you are unable to access the setup page of the router because you have lost or forgotten the username / password combination of the router, you will not be able to do so without setting the device to the factory condition. This means that any special settings that have been set will be lost. Before explaining the simple procedure to perform the reset - you may want to try accessing the setup page with the factory defaults:

Point or click your browser to http://192.168.1.1. If you haven't changed the default, this should bring you to the setup page. Otherwise, input the router address (if known). At the promt for the username and password, enter "admin" for both (no quotes) and click on the "Login" button. If you are not allowed into the router setup or do not know the setup page address folow these steps:

Note: Prior to connecting the router, be sure to power off your computer, DSL/Cable modem, and the router. You should setup the router with a wired connection first before attempting to setup any wireless connection.

Since your router has been previously configured, you should start from scratch by disconnecting all cables - except for the power cord. Then, reset the router by holding in the reset button at the back of the router for 10 seconds while it is plugged in and powered ON. Allow the router to sit undisturbed for a minute and then disconnect the power cord from the router. The router is now in the factory state and can be configured as described below:

Step 1 Connect one end of a network cable to the WAN port of the router and connect the other end of the cable to the DSL/Cable modem.

Step 2 With another network cable, connect one end of the cable to your computer's network card and connect the other end to one of the LAN (Ethernet) ports of the router.

Step 3 Power on the DSL/Cable modem and wait for the lights on the modem to settle down.

Step 4 Power on the router by connecting one end of the supplied power adapter to the power jack of the router and connecting the other end to an electrical outlet.

Step 5 Power on your computer.

Step 6 Make sure the WAN, WLAN, and the LAN port that the computer is connected to are lit. If not try the above steps again.

Follow the configuration as described in the manual linked here.

I hope this helps & good luck!

I purchased a D-Link Wireless N 150 Router, Dir 600L. I am unable to setup the same. Do I need a Modem also to setup this router or I can setup without a modem?

You can setup a wireless network without a modem. It will allow you to share printers, files ect. The modem is required for an internet connection only. The modem basically translates the Ethernet traffic in to a signal that can be carried over your respective service, DSL over a POTS line or broadband over a coax cable. The word modem stands for MOdularDEModular note the word MODEM in there.

I want to connect a Scientific-Atlanta WebSTAR 2000 series Cable Modem to a Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G wireless router but the linksys doesnt detect the modem and the computer wont let the setup program for...

Most Cable Internet Service Providers (ISPs) use Media Access Control (MAC) Address authentication to establish Internet connection for end-users. MAC address is a unique identifier assigned to the network adapter/s of the computer.
To set up your Linksys router to work with a Cable ISP, you have to enable the MAC Clone feature of the router. MAC Cloning is a procedure which enables a router to copy the MAC address of the computer that's registered with the ISP.
To setup a Linksys router with Cable connection you need to perform four steps using the computer that's been registered with the ISP:
i. Verifying Internet Connection
ii. Connecting Devices Together
iii. Checking the Router's LEDs
iv. Configuring a Linksys Router for a Cable Internet Connection

While connecting to internet with nokia 3230 usb modem i'm getting error 692

Hi to resolve this problem, use the appropriate method:
  • Reset your modem. Consult the documentation for information about how to reset the modem.
  • If you have an external modem, make sure that you are using the correct serial cable. For more information about requirements for proper cabling, refer to the "Cabling Requirements" section in Dial-Up Networking Help.
  • If you have an external modem, make sure that the serial cable is connected securely.
  • If you are using a pin adapter to connect your external modem to your serial port, make sure that the pin adapter is wired properly for modem communication. For example, a 9- to 25-pin adapter for a mouse does not work properly with an RAS serial setup.
  • Test the serial port or multiport adapter, and replace the adapter if necessary.
  • Make sure that the handshaking options for the modem are configured properly. Consult the documentation for information about the different handshaking options that are available for your modem.
  • Contact the modem manufacturer to see if any setup and initialization information is available for your modem. Also, check the latest Windows hardware compatibility list (HCL) to make sure that your modem is supported.
  • Use Device Manager to remove the modem. You can do this in safe mode or in normal mode. Restart the computer in normal mode. Windows XP will redetect the modem and reinstall the correct drivers.
Thanks...
With regards....

WAN connection problems with Linksys WRT160N

1.) Have you setup the router for use on cable modem?

2.) Run Your Setup utility that came on the CD for the router. And select Dynamic under the WAN settings unless you have a static IP address.

3.) If you do not have the CD to access the setup use IE Browser type 192.168.1.1. Select WAN settings and then Dynamic from the list.
4.) Make sure your computers are using the router and not the cable modem. Reboot your PC's and verify they work if they don't open the internet connections and view the gateway is 192.168.1.1?

What this means is your D-Link router must be cable connected the cable modem and your pc cable connected to the router. I don't believe you can just plug your pc into the router alone.
