scanner won't cycle up when turned on. Dad took it apart and now it keeps giving the message. Have to turn it on/off 100 times before it will be "on" to work
Hi,
The error code E40 is caused by communication failure between CPUs- " Can't communicate with CPU on on Pick-up control CPU(80_SUB)".
The solution is" Check the connection and replace the PCB." This solution also applies to error codes: E41, E42 and E44.
Hope this information is helpful.

I have an HP Scanjet G3010 that I am using with both XP and Vista. The problem is that sometimes it works fine and other times I get an error message that states the following "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."
Is this a common problem with this scanner?

I use my canoscan 8600f to scan postage stamps. Scanning a custom 2 x 3 inch area, I have to place the postage stamp at the upper right corner, because that is where the scanner expects paper to be aligned. I am right-handed, and it would be MUCH more convenient if the scanner only scanned the 2 x 3 inch area aligned to the lower left corner - it's easier to place the stamps there. Is there any easy way to switch the orientation so that the scanner scans from the bottom up and left to right, from the lower left corner?
