My finace was playing poker online and turned the computer to see the screen better and all of a sudden the bottom 2/3 of the screen when gray, then turned white and is now a bunch of different stripes of color. I dont know what is going on, the computer is currently hooked up to a pc monitor we have, but we have tried to restart it and looked into the trouble shooting and havent been able to fix the problem. I can still see the first thrid of the screen, but everything under that is just gone. I am praying there is a way to fix this, and that the screen isnt broken, because I dont know how it could just break all of a sudden, but if that is the case, can you buy just the screen seperately so we dont have to buy and entirely new laptop?

Re: Is my screen broken?
Hello, I am really sorry about what happened to your laptop. 99% of those cases require a replacement of the screen. I suggest you should visit a technician and check if there is a broken part of the screen where is leaking a liquid. Laptop screens have liquid crystals and probably that liquid is leaking inside. For sure the laptop screen can be bought seperately and it can be replaced.

Quit playing poker online? just a suggestion ask for a refund. This may be a dumb question I will ask. Is this real cash green American money we are talking about here? Or some fake thing that is not real money exchanged whatever it is if I lost my cash on a computer I would be royally upset and not playing that poker game anymore for sure? John
First off which poker client are you using Party Poker, PokerStars etc ? It's possible you may need to update the poker program you use to play online. But thats a problem that could be fixed easier by using their tech support. Contact them with your problem and they will be able to address it. Might be a glitch with their software. Either way we cannot fix that problem here at fixya.
when I was reading my email, suddenly my screen turned black, any never come back since then.
I can't solve your problem but telling you what I did to my computer. I followed HP trouble shooting add external monitor (certainly it is alive) but didn't change at all.
I disassembled the broken one and found out :
I couldn't remove two screws securing the wireless card.
I found a 2-thin-wires(black, red) link between top cover and bottom (mother board on it) which didn't mention anywhere and seems can't disconnect.
And there is a cable original didn't properly connect (beside the phone jack#2), I adjust it.
right now, I am highly suspect the computer store (Micro Center or Fry's) sold the 2nd hand notebook instead of original to us. in the mother board I also saw at least 4/5 places have replace-paper mark there. I would try to bring broken one back to the store we bought and see what they say. I knew it won't work neither HP nor the store care about, right now MONEY is the only thing they want. I did contact HP manager-Ana, she only passioned about whether we would pay $390 to send it back and repair. After I emailed her what our experiences including we found while disaasemble, she never response.
Sorry to answer u by this news :
this problem u have happening by 2 cases ..
1st Case :::: that's maybe ur screen lamps is broken ..so u can see the data but very dark or no Back-light .. so u will need to replace the screen..or advanced option but with expret person to change the lamps from another broken sceen,,
2nd Case ::::: The high-voltage board..it's small board built below the screen to give the screen the right voltage to light on .. so u will need to replace it also ..or Advanced option also but with expert electronic person to check it ..
You have a warranty. You should contact the appropriate people. Do not try to fix this yourself. If you return the machine for service, ask them to get any data off of it that you need. It is possible that your drive has crashed.
