When I first got my ipod touch and my ihome I had no problems and then all of a sudden everything worked except for the ihome wouldn't play music. It charged properly and the alarm and clock worked fine just the music wouldn't play. So I assumed it was the ihome and took it back and exchanged it only to get home and have the exact same problem. So I reset my Ipod and it worked. To do it you have to hold the sleep button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across it to turn off. Press and hold the sleep button until the apple comes on. Next I sync'ed and looke dfor an update. After all this I docked it and it worked.
Try re-setting it. You press the top left button for until a red bar comes on across the screen...slide it to turn it off and then try plugging it back into your stereo...it fixed mine.

From what im told by ihome tech support your ipod and ipod like devices wont play most likely cause the dock is broken and you need to go out and by a new one or you could send it in and have them do it what ever floats your boat
I had the same problem -- however, restarting the iPod didn't fix the issue. Instead, I had to unplug my iHome, remove the batteries and remove the backup watch battery to completely turn off the iHome. When I put them back in the iHome worked with my iPod again, good as new. Hopefully this helps someone.
I took the whole ihome apart and looked at all the complicated wiring. After trying to secure all the wires it still wont work. I think you and I should return the ihome and buy a new ipod stereo

Make sure you have power to the unit. Do you see indicator lights that show the unit is working. Speaker switch on?

I got a iHome and my iPod touch won't play either. When I first got it my iPod played but then i disconected it and when I reconnected it the iPod will only charge, not play music. What is wrong?
We are having the same problem. If anyone out there knows how to fix it, please help. And thank you for your time.
my ipod doesn't play through the docking station port but it does play when i hook it up to the ihome using the short cable provided. you plug one end of the cable into the ipod headphone port and the other end into the back of the ihome "line out" port. it's not as convenient as using the docking station port so if anyone knows of a fix please let me know.
i have the exact same problem with mine. I still have my old ipod nano, so after i noticed that the ihome wouldn't play my new itouch i put the nano in and it played so i'm starting to think that it's not the ihome but the ipod touch.
