Garmin Street Pilot C330 new map installation

I just purchased the North America 2009 map update and downloaded same. Win XP with 274 GB available HD space. After the download I extracted the file (self executing) for installation. As I went through the procedures during the installation I would finally reach a step in which the installation would stop ani I receive an error message advising that the program need an additional 3083 mb disk space. At that point my disk had 268 GB of space available. I removed specific programs and jpg's and compacted the disk, finally gaining 274 GB of free disk space, This after several additional attempts to install. I receive the same message, the program needs an additional 3083 mb of disk space. It does not even recognize the space I made available. Any help or suggestions would be deeply appreciated.
PS: Last year I installed the 2008 map undate from Garmin's **** with no problem.

Yes, I have an additional HD, but I am installing to "C" Drive, the one with 274 GB available.

  • dimin Jun 30, 2008

I have deleted most of my jpg's and music and emptied the recycle bin, that is how I gained the additional space on my "C" Drive.

  • dimin Jun 30, 2008

How do you create additional space in your GPS and expand it's capacity?

  • dimin Jun 30, 2008

OK, how do I remove maps or programs from the gps? I do not have additional voices, I have the map from 2007 when I purchased the unit, the 2008 map from last year, and the available updates offered from time to time, so the question is, how do I remove them?

  • dimin Jul 01, 2008

I'm still here, tried everything, program still won't load.

  • dimin Jul 01, 2008

No usable info on that site, it deals primarily with non commercial maps designed by travel clubs.
They use a different format and loading procedure.

  • dimin Jul 01, 2008

Well, this is what confuses me no end. The error message states that I do not have enough room on my "C" drive (which in fact I do). Now, is that error message actually referring to the "C" drive in my computer, or is it referring to the available space left in the gps? If it's the gps, no problem, I have a 2GB SD on the way for it. If it's referring to the "C" dive on my desktop, I'm totally confused.

From my experience, it is your GPS that does not have the proper memory space. You need to add an expansion card to your GPS if this model has the option.

I had a similar model to your GPS. It had a slot for a memory expansion. I put in a 2 GB card, and was able to have all of North America installed.

Because of the age of your GPS, for a bit more of an investment that is worth it, I would have gone out and bought the newer NUVI series from Garmin. They have models with all of North America built in, and also can have expansion cards for Europe, and other continents, and anything else they have available.

These newer models are maping upgradable, and should not have any space problems. They are also much improved for reception performance and the brightness of the display..

Your GPS requires more memory. If your unit can take optional SD cards, get the biggest one it will support.

From my memory, I believe a 2 GB card should be able to hold all of the North America mapping.

If nothing is helping you out to free the space. the best option is to reformat your c-drive and increase the size of your drive. so as to accomodate your new program installation.do not forget to take a backup of your important data before u format your drive.

is your hard drive split into two partitions?
could be that you're out of space on the c: drive and have loads left over on the d: drive...
Can you try it this way? Download and open the downloaded file with winrar or winzip and extract it to a folder anywhere - and run setup.exe from there (it's a self-extract archive file)

The map update is asking for the space in your device, not in your hard drive or am I mistaken?

If you are installing to the GPS device, space required in GPS side. So make sure you have enough storage on your GPS, You can also expand your GPS device memory. During installation you can also exclude the destinations you are not using, it will require lower capacity of space
If issue persist please post with more details so we can locate more focused solution.

Good Luck

Hi,

the update installs the map to your C drive first, then copies it over to the GPS. Also, the 2009 maps take up slightly more space than previous versions, so if you've got a lot of photos and/or mp3's on the internal memory, you may need to delete them. Most nuvi models will update without a problem, but if you're still short on space, try deleting some of the additional languages and voices to free up some additional space.

Hello  Dimin,
If you have more than one harddrive, make sure that you are installing the program in the harddrive with the 274 GB of free space, and not in the other harddrive that mightnot have that 3083 MBs of free space

Register your Garmin at MyGarmin.com - from here Garmin guides you to download the webbrowser plugin to communicate with your Garmin StreetPilot C330 over a USB cable.

When your Garmin StreetPilot C330 is connected through your webbrowser - it will show compatible map updates. These can be ordered on DVD or downloaded.

Note that downloading the map update will take a very long time and requires at least 5 Gb of disk space on your PC/Mac. The internet connection needs to be fast and stable enough to complete the huge download. Otherwise its better to order the update through DVD.

Putting maps on sd memory card

(Untried)
For C330 owners that want to have both Canada and US 2008 map update on their GPS this is what you have to do.

Must have:
1 - Street pilot C330

2 - 512mb SD card
3 - SD card reader of some form (some cameras will suffice)
4 - Garmin 2008 Map Update North America

What to DO:

1 - connect the GPS to the computer
2 - Insert the Map update disk
3 - Install the Lower 48 states, United States
(Reason - the C330 has around 1000mb of memory and the "US 48 states" map uses around 900mb" while Canada uses 400mb...which is why you will need that 512mb SD card later)

4 - Once the GPS is updated with the US map. Browse the Map update disk contents. This can be done with going to "My Computer" right click on your CD/DVD drive and click on "Explore"

5 - Open the folder called "img"

6 - Copy the file called "gmappromU.img" file is around 430mb. (This is the map file for Canada)

7 - Insert your SD card into your card reader and connect it to your computer. A window should pop up. If not you should see it on your "My Computer"

8 - Once you have navigated your way into the SD card directory. Create a folder on the SD card named "garmin" (no caps)

9 - Go into your newly created "garmin" folder right click and paste the "gmappromU.img" file. (This may take upto 20 to 30 mins)

10 - Once the process is complete, Rename the "gmappromU.img" file to --> "gmapsupp.img" (watch for spelling, no caps at all)

11 - Remove the SD card, Turn off your GPS, Insert SD card into GPS.

12 - Turn on GPS, let it load, and there you have it, the FULL North America Map.

When you are searching a state or province (depending where you are located) it will give you an option which map to use, Canada/Alaska or the lower 48 US states. Select your map and you are set to Go.
