Serial #G09007232; model #RMC-LPC80DGP; It is a construction heater & we are using it for the basement. We lit it for the first time today & on the low setting the flames are shooting out of the holes a couple of inches. My question is: are flames supposed to shoot out like that?

No it is not supposed to, please check to see that you have the chimney seated correctly. The chimney is the part that the flames heat up. It should sit flat on the steel ring around the wick.

Contact GHP Group Inc, (877) 447-4768 to order a replacement regulator - MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE PROPER HEATER MODEL NUMBER. Replacement Part Number: S2TT0001B for the RMC-TT30DGP.

Replacement cost including shipping is a couple bits over $21.

When talking to the technician on the phone, he cautioned me against rapidly opening the tank valve, which hammers the regulator (the replacement one is more robust than the original), kinda' like how water-hammer can cause damage to water pipes and/or water appliances. Open the tank valve gently, don't just whip it open (like I used to), your regulator will last a lot longer that way.

Because of the press-fit and pins used in the regulator construction & assembly, self-repair is not possible or recommended since the regulator may not seal correctly afterwards.
