Shadow copy service had to do with your system restore feature.

several things can interfere with the system restore process. Low disk space is one

Here is a nice document, explaining what it is and how it works

My computer runs really slow, freezes, internet explorer hardly ever works. help!!

There is no such thing as a windows vista machine. You can install different operating systems on different machines. Your problem is most likely that you're missing drivers for the peripherals.
Download a program called "driver easy" and run it. It will tell you what drivers are missing, once you get all the drivers installed you should find things work better, like once you get your network running then internet explorer will stop having problems.

Tip

System Restore Via Recovery Console
Ever encountered a problem with your computer wherein it gives you an error page saying that a certain file in the registry is missing or corrupt? Unfortunately, with this kind of error, there are times that you are not able to boot into the OS, and therefor you are not able to do a system restore.
If you are using Windows 7 or Vista, you may initiate System Restore via booting into "Repair My Computer" which you can choose via the Advanced Boot Options of Windows. However, what do you do if this does not work, or you are using Windows XP.
Fortunately, there is still a way to be able to restore your system. This involves manually doing the system restore via the recovery console (for XP), and recovery environment (Vista and 7). The only thing that you will need is the OS CD.
Once you have successfully booted into the Recovery Console, type in the commands below and make sure that you press "ENTER" after each line.

C:\WINDOWS] cd \ C:\] attrib -h-s "system volume information" C:\] Cd "system volume information" C:\system volume information] cd _resto~1 ..._resto~1] dir --- this should list several rp folders [short for restore points] just select second to the last or any of your choice other the the last rp folder ..._resto~1] cd rp# ...rp#] cd snapshot ...snapshot] dir --- the 5 hive files are shown in this format: _registry_machine_software _registry_machine_security _registry_machine_system _registry_machine_sam _registry_user_.default Syntax [Command filename location] ...snapshot] copy _registry_machine_software c:\windows\system32\config\software ...snapshot] copy _registry_machine_system c:\windows\system32\config\system ...snapshot] copy _registry_machine_security c:\windows\system32\config\security ...snapshot] copy _registry_machine_sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam ...snapshot] copy _registry_user_.default c:\windows\system32\config\default ...snapshot] exit
After this, you just need to restart your computer and it should be working fine.

My Acer Aspire desktop computer, which was working just fine before Christmas, has slowed to a crawl and everytime I open a window it stops responding. Refer to the details below and thank you in adva

Andrew, have you followed the information provided by Microsoft for Vista and using Startup Repair?

Have you tried doing a System Restore to put the system back to when it was last working fine - this should help if the problem is caused by a bad Windows Update fix or similar system change?

How much memory do you have on your Acer Aspire computer - Vista needs at least 2GB to run reasonably well, more if available subject to the limit of 3.5GB for 32bit operating systems.

Even though you are running Norton 360 security software - it is still possible that you may have a virus infection - all security software is only as good as the decisions made by the computer user - click on a 'bad' link on a web page and answer a security message wrongly and all bets are off!

Download and burn a copy of the free AVG Rescue CD and boot your computer from this to check that you have no virus infection(s).

What is the performance like when started in Safe Mode? If it is back to how you expect, then again it suggests that something recently installed has changed things - try disabling any Startup programs - you can use the free CCleaner utility from Piriform to help you do this by going to the Tools page then selecting Startup which will show a list of what programs are being started each boot - you can disable any of these by using the Disable button or with the mouse on the entry.

When I boot up the computer a pop-up message says "oovoo has stopped working" and when I go to an internet site, a pop-up states "an error has occurred in the script on this page." ...

Hi,

Try reinstalling the newest version of oovoo from here:

http://www.oovoo.com/Download.aspx

After you reinstall, restart your PC/Computer and the problem should be gone.

If that doesn't work. Uninstall oovoo, reboot your computer, reinstall oovoo, reboot your pc again, and then it should work.

I hope this helps :) Best of luck!

Hey my internet explorer opens but pops a message that says "restore my last session" or "go to homepage" either one i click, the program stops responding any ideas?

Well, first of all make sure you have Internet Explorer 8 or vers. 9 if you want to test the Beta out.
Then, I would click on the (x) rather than the 'restore my last session' if encountering that choice.

Constant hard drive noise on j2489

Are you using Vista? If so that's your problem, Vista is constantly scanning your hard disk for indexing. To turn it off follow this link: http://4sysops.com/archives/how-to-disable-vista%E2%80%99s-desktop-search-indexing-windows-search/ but bear in mind that search etc will be much slower, and some things in Vista may not work the way they're supposed to as it is now an integral part of the OS.

"BOOTMGR is missing"

Find yourself receiving "BOOTMGR is missing, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" message? Don't stress! Its easier to fix than you think. Here's how:

SOLUTION 1

- Get your Vista installation DVD and pop it into your drive.
- Then restart your computer.
- Set your computer to boot from DVD or CD in your BIOS.

Vista will ask you for language and keyboard layout information, after which you will be asked if you want to re-install Vista or repair your existing installation.
Select Repair. After which Vista's System Recovery Tool will start.

Select Startup Repair and let Vista do its thing! That really is all there is to it!

If that doesn't work try this:

SOLUTION 2

If the previous method does not resolve the problem, you can rebuild the BCD store by using the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment. To do this, follow these steps:

- Get your Vista installation DVD and pop it into your drive.
- Then restart your computer.
- Press a key when you are prompted.
- Select a language, a time, a currency, and a keyboard or another input method, and then click Next
- Click Repair your computer
- Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next
- In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt
- Type bootrec /rebuildbcd and then press ENTER

• If Bootrec runs successfully, it will present you with the installation path of a Windows directory. To add the entry to the BCD store, type Yes . A confirmation message appears that indicates the entry was added successfully.

• If Bootrec cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it. To do this, type the following commands in the order shown below: (Remember to press ENTER after each command)

bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup

ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old

bootrec /rebuildbcd

- Restart the computer.

Error Tab

Turn off the, or better yet uninstall, the Acer Screensaver. Something you installed, possibly a screensaver program? has corrupted the Acer screensaver causing that error message. That add-on screensaver is notoriously buggy anyway.

disable the service,

hold down windows key and press r

then from the services list find Microsoft Software Shadow copy Provider - thats the one i beleave.

Right click, properties, startup type, disabled. then stop the service.

You shouldnt get any more errors and the service is not required so everything should work normally.
