Is there a reset button or something on the machine, similar to rebooting a computer?

do you have something that is not common sense? I am fairly tech savvy and I would like something more concrete

I keep getting a box saying "cannot schedule recording There is already a timer at the same time on this channel " How can I get rid of this permanently ?

Not knowing the age, make, model... blu-ray, dvd... etcetera ad nausium... puts me at a bit of disadvantage... but the short of a long story is your MACHINE is conflicted betwixt your current instructions and scheduled tasks already resident inside its iddy biddy lil'mind... and what you are currently attempting.

Now would that I could have looked it up... YOUR INSTRUCTIONS MANUAL.... I would be looking for general reset... schedule clearing... and areas of like endeavor.

Perhaps a wee reset button or hole on the rear of your unit
(all else fails... read that manual).

FACTORY SETTINGS restore (nice safe approach).

Else: attempt a brutal HARD-START.
If your "RECORDER" is more than 5 years old... the BACK-UP power battery (if even equipped) might already possibly be dead... (else remove that battery) unplug your unit... go have breakfast, coffee or do my speed-cycle for me...

Replace that battery (if even equipped)... Plug it back in...
Pull up a chair... enter your scheduling MODE... and start looking for entries to erase.

Then try to set your new schedule... Good luck.

Hope that helps

Unplug the unit for 24-hours. I know, it should not take that long, but in this case I tried shorter periods WITHOUT success!

Just before plugging in unit depress and hold POWER button. You are supposed to hold it for 30-seconds after plugging in, but in my case I did it for 60-seconds. This results in a MASTER RESET that clears all errors, resets interlocks, etc. I could not get past a DVD failure problem, but when I discovered this process everything worked fine!!

Good luck! Hope it works for you too.

Lost power while recording a dvd when power came back, i keep getting the "incorrectdisc" error message. I've done the up-channel/play reset/initialization trick several times, but keep getting the...

the "expert's" advice was about as useless as could possibly be- I had already tried all of his suggestions several times before even contacting fixya. what a freaking WASTE of $20.

The only thing left to try is unplug that piece of **** for, oh, say, a month, to let the capacitors discharge completely and hope that the error message goes away. If that doesn't work, the unit is going into the sh*t can.

Yamaha dv-s5650

I have a Yamaha DV-S5550 and recently did the same thing. Our players may have the same menu system. Give this a try. Turn the power to the dvd player on. Using the remote, follow this key sequence exactly. Press the onscreen button. Press the down directional key once. Press the right directional key once. Press the down directional key six times. Press the right directional key once. Press the down directional key once. Press the left directional key once. Press the onscreen button. Your player should now be set to NTSC output. Good luck!

Is there an option To Save Settings, after setting the time-date ?
Most devices usually have a small internal battery or memory chip that stores this information. however there are also devices that when power is removed completely. i.e a power failure or switched off at the mains, time and date settings have to be reset.
Hope this solves your problem.

Most likely the hard drive is faulty, or it may need resetting/ formatting.
Chances are that the HD has gone.
