Usually there are two spring loaded clips that wedge into slots located toward the front edge of the "top" of the dryer. The rear of the top is usually held in place by a hinge that allows the consumer to lift the lid and prop it up like a car hood. Sometimes these clips can be very stubborn or even rusted a bit since they are usually put in a dark damp room i.e. wash room. You may need a large flat screwdriver or other similar prying device. The more you can spread out the area of prying the less chance you have of denting the side/front panel. Once the clips come loose you should be able to lift the top section up enough to access the screws that attach the fins inside the drum.

Step 1: To remove the back panel, remove a series of screws or bolts that hold the panel to the top and sides of the cabinet.

Step 2: To remove the lower front panel, pull it away from the bottom of the cabinet. Lift the lower panel up and away. Remove the springs under each side of the lower panel.

Step 3: To remove the top panel, wedge a stiff-bladed putty knife under the rim of the top and pry the top off. The putty knife helps release several spring fasteners at the top of the cabinet sides and front.

Step 4: To remove the dryer's control panel, remove the screws that hold it to the cabinet top or front. These screws may be under a piece of metal or plastic trim; pry off or unscrew the trim. Most knobs are friction-fit; pull them straight out.

Fin that tumbles clothing inside dryer coming loose, how can I tighten it?

These fins are usually screwed on from the outside of the drum. If you're up to it this is a simple but time consuming fix. Take the cabinet off the front of the dryer, the top will come off as well. be careful of the wires from the control console, they will stay attached to the dryer. Tighten the tumbler fins on the drum and then re-assemble the cabinet. Typically the screws you need to access are the same used for the door latch and hinges. They go back together easy ........

Fins inside drumare loose

Open the top ... held down with spring clips ... remove the front panel ... probably 2 to 4 screws ... be careful of the wires ... unplug the machine of course. Remove the drum ... but first observe the belt arrangement so you can reinstall. Tighten the 'fins'. Reverse the procedure.

You can use a pry or large screw driver to pop the top. Be careful of the finish.

Loose vane/fin on the Maytag LDE8406ACE

On almost all dryers the top will release by itself without requiring you to remove the front. There are two small clamp-like mechanisms under the top on the front side. They can be released easily by sticking a flat-tip screwdriver straight into them and pushing in. Once you open the top you can spin the drum by hand and tighten the screws on the fins. Take not however that some fins are only placed in by plastic snaps, and if it is loose it probably means that it is broken and will require repairs.

Loose fins- How do we tighten them or can't you

You'll have to pop the top of the dryer. Insert a stiff putty knife into the split between the top & front, about 2 - 3 inches in from the side. There will be a spring catch you need to push in, about 1/2 inch. There is one on each side. Stand the lid up and HOPEFULLY, the fins are held in with screws or bolts. Just tighten them. If they're rivited in, you'll have to use an epoxy putty to lock them into place. Sneakers in a dryer, without a few towels will knock them loose.

A tumbler fin

This isn't much help, but those fins will break off. I have had them break off. I am ordering some new ones, called "baffles" and will be installing them. I hope I can the top open on the machine.
