Broken Phone Screen?

About a week ago I purchased the Samsung SCH-u550 and this morning when I went to look at it the screen was gray. Down the middle of the screen was completely gray and the text was invisible, but on the sides I could slightly make out what was there. Turning it on and off didn't work, but about 30 minutes later it was back to normal. Now again, maybe an hour after it started working, the screen is blinking sporadically between normal and a washed-out but legible grayscale. Sometimes it will stop in the gray version, and other times it will come back to color. I'm still eligible to replace the phone if I have any problems, is it best to do that or is this fixable? It doesn't seem like there's any harm in just getting a new phone but if this is something that can be taken care of maybe that would be best?

my friend dropped my phone a couple of months ago, and ever since i have been having constant problems with my phone. The screen of my once beloved mobile phone is cracked very deeply leading me to think that the LCD is severely damaged. Periodically, the apperance of the display on the screen can be fine, enabling me to use my phone with ease. However, most of the time the screen is either constantly flashing or a greyscale, fading image occurs. Is it cheaper to buy a new phone or to replace the cracked screen?

You should fix the screen. It is defientely much cheaper than buying a new phone. I had the exact same problem. I dropped my phone several times, & the phone screen was completely blank. I was worried, but if you call up the nokia HELP centre, and describe your problem to them, they will tell you what to do.. & they will als give yu guidlines on where to get your phone fixed. They told me it wont cost me over atleast 40 bucks. So if you can find another phone for under 40 bucks.. GO BUY, if nott .. i suggest to pick up your phone and dial their number and seek help. WORKED for me :)

I have 2 SCH-U550 phones, both on my Verizon plan.. One has a fried display, the other is fine. The "Good" phone has just had its number/account upgraded into a new phone (not yet activated) ,...

Hi, unfortunately the SCH-U550 with Verizon service doesn't use a SIM card... everything is internal to the phone. You should be able to take the two phones to a Verizon store and have an associate swap the numbers for you, however. I've had this done before and it was free.
Hope that helps!

How to replace a Samsung SCH-U550 cell phone battery

The Samsung SCH-U550 is an older-style flip phone that doesn't see much use today. If you still have an SCH-U550 and you need to replace its battery, here's how.

First it's a good idea to turn the phone off. (You don't have to, but there's less chance of data being corrupted if you do.) Hold down the End button for a couple of seconds until you see the phone start to power down, then the screen will go black.

Once the phone is off, turn it over so you're looking at the back side. Most of the back cover, from the bottom about 2/3 of the way up toward the top, is one piece. To remove the cover, push down on it with your thumb and slide it downward. If you press on it closer to the top it will be easier to slide, but you may have to push firmly.

With the cover off, you should be staring at the battery. It's black and rectangular, and it probably says "Samsung" on it. Remove the battery by sliding your thumb into the groove on the bottom side and lifting it up.

When installing the new battery, slide it in from the bottom up -- towards the three gold pins sticking out of the phone. Those pins should line up with the three gold contacts on the battery itself. The battery will also probably have an arrow on it, in the direction that you should slide it.

With the new battery in, reattach the rear cover. There are three tabs sticking out of the top of the cover that will line up with three notches in the back side of the phone. Insert the tabs about halfway into the notches, then push the cover down (toward the phone) and slide the tabs the rest of the way in to snap the cover into place.

Now just turn your phone on to verify that the new battery works. If your phone doesn't turn on, remove the battery and reinstall it, being certain that the contacts and pins are touching and that everything fits into place.

Broken lcd screen

I have to tell you that swapping LCD screens are pretty hard especially for phones that you have to open up like this one. Just take the screen to some Cellphone store they might be able to do it. Good luck.
