My Toshiba Satellite A 215 has a built in webcam that doesn't work w/ any of my messenger features (MSN, Skype, etc.). At one time it worked w/ MSN but never w/ Skype, which is ironic b/c it's supposed to be a "Skype-ready" laptop. Anyway, being technological idiot the only way I know to even check my webcam is to go into Skype-options-webcam. Here it either shows my picture (working) or remains black (not working). I don't know how to begin fixing it from this point. Any suggestions are welcome.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. goodluck!

just had a look on the toshiba website and there are no win 7 64 bit drivers for your webcam....which is kind of wierd and might explain why your camera doesn't work....there is however a winvista 64 bit driver which might work go here for driver
I have a toshiba satellite too. I had the same problem when i had just
bought my laptop. It seems like it is a software or driver problem,
nothing wrong with the hardware. Do this once or twice and this problem
wont reoccur, it hasn't for me again. Go to device manager and disable
the webcam, restart the computer then go back and enable it. Now the
webcam will for fine with all instant messengers. I remember donig this
few times when my laptop was new. Now its been over a year and this
problem hasnot occured again. I hope this helps you too or your friend.
The type of pc is not as important as the type of webcam at this point. The story also needs more details.
If you had a Logtec webcam and at first it only worked with its custom made software, what did you do to make it work with MSN? ---------------- Based of the info provided, I would 1. uninstall all cam software while the cam is unpluged,
2. Reboot the pc. Then plug the cam in.
3. When windows detects the cam, it will ask for drivers, do not click on search on windows update website, click the option to choose from a specific location and then browse to the cd provided.
4. Try and load msn now. The msn website or the cam company sometimes have a patch to make the cam and the messenger work together. I would check the cam website before looking around the microsoft site.
I'm using a Toshiba satellite notebook A200, which I faced the same problem like you saying my built- in webcam cannot operate after I clicked on the drop down list from the windows live messenger to have a webcam conversation. Another program is running the webcam at startup. That program is called Camera Assistant Software which is the conflicting software. Therefore I closed this software and I'm able to use my webcam again in my webcam conversation in windows live messenger. I hope this information will help you.Good Luck!
