5 blinks - check the 5v SOS D Board since the set is a plasma.

Your best best is to obtain a quote from an authorised Panasonic service centre on the likely cost to replace that board if required, then you can make a decision afterwards - to either go ahead with the repair, or cut your losses and purchase a new set if the latter option turns out to be cheaper.

Always ask about and insist on extended warranties whenever you buy a new TV such as plasmas. These will cover you against expensive repairs, and having to buy a new one each time the old one breaks down in the future.

These days manufacturers lean toward board replacement in plasma and LCD TVs rather than individual components, as it is quicker and easier to replace a whole board than to try and fix an old faulty one. It's also tidier in terms of layout.

Hi, I have a Panasonic W32D2DP its about 5 years old. It worked fine until about 3 weeks ago. It started cutting off and going to standby. It worked fine after for a few more hours, then would do it...

It's going to be cheaper to buy a new TV. Once you get this problem solved, another one will pop up. The parts for a TV that's 5 years old are not going to be cheap. Most TV repair shops stop carrying parts after 4 years, & the manufacturer stops making them after 7-10 years. With a semi-major purchase like a TV, it's best to purchase an extended warranty. ipmart. com offers a cheap repair manual. You'll be suprised how expensive repair shops can be when it involves "out-of-warranty" work.

Is the tv that I have bought about 6 years ago ready for DTV?

6 year old tv probably not digital ready. The converter box will work if tv is on channel 3 and you use a UHF antenna. Most converter box connections have 75 ohm connectors, your tv may have the round connector to accept the input signal. If you have screw on terminals on the tv you will have to go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a matching transformer to go between the tv and the converter box. UHF antenna can be made out of a coat hanger. Just make a circle clean the paint off ends and attach. Or just buy a digital booster antenna at WalMart.

You'll need to pull out the warranty paperwork and see what it says about repairs. You'll likely need to present the proof of purchase for the warranty along with the machine, for Best Buy to start the process. To be certain you're doing it right, consult the warranty to see what to do. You can void your extended warranty if you take the machine to someone not certified to work on the machine.

as for the extended warranty if it is still under manufacturers warranty you should be able to get it from the place you purchased it from( if they offer it) or the manufacturer.

Tv had burning smell and picture was shrinking on sides.

Hello dcook,

Yes, you are right. A good quality TV set should last for a few more years. Unfortunately I do not have enough information from your description of the problem to even try to make an educated guess of what could be wrong with your TV set. There are many possibilities. There are also a few things you can do to fix the problem: 1.- The obvious first: Check with the manufacturer or place of purchase if the item is still under warranty. The user's manual always offers assistance phone number(s). I do not know if you have extended warranty for the set, if so, that will pretty much take care of the problem. 2.- Contact a reputable, licensed/insured repair company to give you a repair estimate. There are many repair companies nowadays that will go to your home, troubleshoot the problem, give you an estimate and even sometimes repair it on site. A lot of them will reimburse you the cost of the estimate/service call if they repair it. Try to get at least two opinions/estimates for your protection.
Hope this helps. Let me know if we can be of further assistance.
