Model FDE546RES1 Drum squeeking with every turn. Can't dry clothes when my son is trying to sleep. You can hear it through the whole house. Is it better to have it repaired or get a new one since it is 12 years old?

some dryers has a center bearing on the rear of the drum, once this bearing dries out it will make noise along as the drum turns.

I had a problem similar to this on my Frigidaire dryer. I found that there is a felt ring that goes around the drum inside. This acts like a washer to prevent the drum from rubbing on the housing. On mine, the felt somehow got pushed in some and the drum was squeeking as it rotated. I had to order a whole new drum and replace it since on my model it was part of the drum.

it most likely has parts that are worn out and need replaced. you will need to have it serviced.

You will need to check the tub roller wheels. This is a common noise when the wheel bearings start to ware down. They are not expensive, and you should be able to do this yourself. Good Luck Friend.

Sometimes blower wheels will get loose in dryers. Sometimes they will get a whole lump of lint in them or you can hear a rattling noise in the dryer, this is the blower wheel, its worn out and it can cause the fuse to blow too,or it can half *** work and take fifty forever's to dry the clothes.Or it could be just that the dryer needs a good blowing out .I use a lawn blower to get all the lint out of the dryer as well as the vent pipe and vent to outside. I take the filter HOUSING out and wash it also. That is, I remove the housing and clean is good! Making sure that the dryer is properly flowing air is a good thing!

If your dryer squeeks just a short squeek just as you start it thats not a big problem If the noise is there all the way through the cycle it could be the drum rollers locatedat back wall of dryer ,the drum rides on 2 of these they could be worn if its a short sqeek could be a slightly worn belt . thanks for the question The appliance doc

i would replace the belt usually over time the belt streaches due to the weight of the clothes. the screaching ou are hearing is probably the belt going aound the drum instead of turning the drum.

When you try to restart do you hear a motor running? If you do hear that sound and the dryer does not turn your belt could be the problem. (broken)
