alot of DVD/VHS combos have a built in RF modulator. Look for a coax (screw threads) output on the unit and it should be labeld either DVD/VHS OUT or just VHS OUT. If it does not have a combo out then you will need to use the seperate RF modulator.
Your combo unit should have a set of yellow red and white jacks that are labeled DVD & VHS OUT. Connect these yellow red and white to the yellow red and white on your RF modulator, then connect the coax (screw threads) out on the RF modulator to the coax jack on the back of your TV. There is also typically a swich for channel 3 or 4 on the RF Modulator, make sure you TV is on which ever channel you have that switch set to. If your RF modulator has a power light on it, it will usually not come on until your DVD/VHS is sending a signal through it and it is connected properly.
If you have an antenna or cable box, your RF moudulator should have an Antenna or Cable input jack on it that you can use.
RF MODULATOR HOOKUP For a TV with only a RF input jack, a RF Modulator can be used to hookup DVD players, DVD recorders and other devices which output RCA composite video and audio. For example, analog cable TV can be connected using a RG-6 type coaxial cable to a VCR or older DVD recorder's analog cable ready tuner RF input. Then as shown above, the output can be connected to the TV thru the RF modulator. The modulator outputs on channel 3 or 4 for the older TV so the TV is set to channel 3 or 4. Some RF modulators are built-in to Audio/Video switch boxes. These allow multiple RCA inputs along with RF input.
RF MODULATOR CLOSE-UP The modulator converts signals to channel 3 or 4 so older TVs can tune them on their analog tuners channel 3 or 4.
The sequence should go from the wall to the VCR then the VCR to the RF modulator then from the RF modulator to the TV and this should allow you to record a TV program and watch a DVD at the same time.
it all depends on how you want them to work in combination with each othere
tv will be the last in the line reciving your signal
depending on what inpputs your tv has will determin in wich ways you can hook it all up
a detailed input and output is needed for each device to determin exzactly what way is best to hook them up
ultimatly you want to leave your tv on channle 3 and not have to mess with that remote or button on the universal
witch means routing them in a chain configuration inoput to out to in to out
im not exzactly shur what you mean by rf modulator i am gussing for a game counsel or something similar
meh there is no way i can realy answer this acuratly with out more info on the inoputs and out puts of each device
i can how ever give you an order to follow that i would use
satellite reciver to tv
with the game counsel hooked up to an av input on the tv (requirs a channle change to play the game counsel)
if you dont have an av input and only an rf conector you have to hook them up in a chain witch would be satalite ,rf mod,tv
@ tihis link above you can see it. It takes the av SIgnal Your Sound and picture and convert it RF making it possible for your tv to tune it, its just like tunning into a station. I do sell these for R199 South African Rand excluding postage
ok cable sat wire goes into input of dvd-vcr input then coming out from the dvd vcr and into the moulator then a wire out to the tv now make sure your vcr is set to the right setting ...now you can record 1 cable..2.vcr dvd..3 modulator...4...tv make sure vcr is set to monitor
The RF converter takes the Red/White/Yellow as INPUTS and converts them to either channel 3 or 4. You need to go the other way. You need a tuner or another VCR to convert from RF (channel 3 or 4) to a standard AV signal (Red/White/Yel).

OK...try this...plug your RCA cables from your camcorder into the RCA input jacks on the back of the recorder. If you have a VCR, it can be plugged into the coax input on the back of the recorder. Use the coax output and plug it into a RF modulator (about $20 at Wal Mart). Plug the RCA output cables from the recorder into the RF modulator as well (Don't ask me why, but it seems to work on mine). Connect a coax cable from the RF modulator to the TV. Make sure the TV and Recorder are both on the right channel. The RF modulator will have a channel switch to use channel 3 or 4 on the TV. Make sure the recorder is set to E1 (Rear). You can check this with the channel +/- buttons on the bottom right of the remote. Good luck.
ALL cable is digital. What type of TV do you have? Does it have any scart conections on it? If not connect the Cable box with a scart lead to your VCR select the AV channel on your VCR, connect your VCR to your TV via the RF connection, (if it has not got one, its not a TV, its a monitor). Tune your TV in to the video channel. You do not need an RF modulator for a home TV setup, whoever told you that is a fool.
