When I press the magic focus button on my hitachi projection tv, it doesn't work. Also the blue lines are ditorted and will not line up with the green and red even when I manually adjust it. I've even bought a new convergence board and no luck.

I believe it's the digital convergence unit, the part that plugs into the convergence board or card. The part # is CS00453R. I appreciate all your input and help.

Hitachi 53UDX10BA needs the convergence repaired . . . studied STK's and looks like I need the 150's, two of them. Then I saw the idea of the board rather than the STK's. Any help? Also, where would I get either? Thanks

Hi - I've come up with the same problem with my 65Swx20B. I got a blue ray player and hooked up with the drivers for watching online films. It worked fine but the next time I turned on the TV the magic focus was messed up. Perhaps loading in the new drivers for netflix pushed on something that was about to go anyway. I saw some possible solutions online but none of them helped. I just opened the back and could not see any hot spots or signs of something overheating or blowing. Any ideas?

We cannot get the color to align. It appears like there is a blue or yellow background around words

If your TV looks 3D, warped, or distorted it likely has a convergenge problem.
If however it just looks dull, washed out, redish, greenish, or blueish or if it looks like objects on the screen have halos the fluid in the lens has soured.
You can search google for parts or you can get the parts with repair instructions from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Hitachi 51F500 magic focus wont work, blue has "dropped", when I use the magic focus on auto it does nothing, when I use manual focus the grid has the blue scooped down and I can't seem to get it back in...

Sounds like your blue convergence module is faulty along with a few resistors. There is two convergence modules in your set(stk-392-020) and when one fails, the both of them are usually replaced with a matched pair .If you have a good knowledge of electronic you may replace them yourself.otherwise you`ll need the help of a tv repairman. Hope this help. Good luck

This is a convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors.Shops usually charge from $200-$300

Magic focus off

You will not be able to solve this yourself. It needs the convergence IC's replaced which is a big job.

Yellow and blue color ruins total picture on 50" tv,can't get rid

lupe0112,

I'm no expert, but I think that you have a problem with the convergence of the 3 color guns. I've been working on a similar problem. As a first step, have you tried "Magic Focus?" The Magic Focus button for the Hitachi 53UDX10B is at the left of the small front panel controls that also include your RCA composite and SVideo connectors. Let the set warm up for about 20 minutes (as recommended by the user guide), and then press the Magic Focus button. When you press the Magic focus button, the set will auto align the 3 color guns. If this doesn't fix your problem, unplug the TV for at least 4 hours and try again.

Hitachi projection tv

I would change both ICs STK392-110 and also the 3.3ohm 1 watt resistors and the 1.8 ohm 1 watt you would need 2 of each resistor. Then your convergence would be new again. You can get replacement ICs and resistors at the following link with free shipping and free instalation instructions with pictures.
