All machines thread the same. TTN tension, take up, needle.
Beginning with the spool, guide the thread through the thread guides to the tension assembly. Pull the thread through the tension assembly and test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.) If it passes this test, continue up through the take up lever, then down through the thread guides to the needle. Make sure your needle is fully inserted and turned the correct way.( If you load your bobbin case from the left side, the needle rule is normally FLAT to the RIGHT is RIGHT. There are some exceptions. If you have a newer style drop in bobbin or your bobbin case loads in the front then the rule is FLAT to the BACK.

Very fussy Singer machines, make sure you have a good mercerised thread and you may need to work at the tensions, top should be about 4 or 5

I do not know how to adjust the tension on my singer sewing machine model # 2517C. please assist.

it should be right in front on the left of the machine small round knob or dail... going from 0123or 0-1-2-3 what is your problem not sewing good on top of material or bottom of material.... take out bobbin put back in change needle... re-thread the machine... sometimes it isnt the tension but just a odd thread in the bobbin case or too much lint from the fabric.... do you use it alot.... hope this helps...

My daughter has a singer 2517c model machine and i think she is missing a cap to hold the spool of thread on , that model does have that cap right

You can call Singer at 1-800-4singer and order from them, or go to www.sewingpartsonline.com and order one for $3.99. Myself, I would take a prescription medicine bottle cap and cut a hole in it for free, it would do the same thing.
