Question about Dell 962 Photo All-In-One InkJet Printer
When I try to print, the carrier just slams from side to side and the screen says to clear the carrier jam. I have done exactly what the instructions say to do and every thing else but stand on my head.
There are two reasons the printer may report a carriage jam - either the carriage is jammed, or the printer thinks the carriage is jammed be cause it does not receive any movement information when it commands the carriage to move. This latter case seems to be the problem you have, and is usually caused by a damaged or displaced encoder strip. You can see what the encoder strip looks like for a different printer here. If the encoder is damaged, unhooked from its supports or covered with ink it could cause the issues you are seeing. If the encoder is still in place you can try gently cleaning it, but I would suspect that most likely you will need to have the printer serviced.
