Question about Nikon Cameras

5 Answers

I have a Nikon D70. I charge the batteries (I've tried three) but the camra will not take a pix and reads chr. This has never happened before. Did I accidentally change a program in it that I'm not aware of? I have no instruction manual. Tom in Tucson

I can see the LCD stuff. It comes on. I can also use the settings on the back of the camera.

When I say that I can't take pix.... I mean that when I push the shutter button, nothing happens. Period. Tom in Tucson

Sounds like an issue with the SD card. Try replacing the card. Also, here's a link for the manual.

Seems like a hardware problem, do you still have warranty on it? I would suggest to contact nikon for service / checkup. You can press the reset button at the connectors or in the bottom to see if that has any effect.

    ok

    here you go.

if you are able to see the the pictures in the play back mode well and good. it can be a simple problem

if you are not able to see them even in play back mode then it is a serious problem.
this can be a fault wit your cameras CCD.

this means your camera cannot capture any image at this stage.

this needs a highly experienced tech or Nikon authorized service centers to fix this camera.

if you have a warranty you wont be charged for any of these and you can fix them for free.

if you dont have a warranty then it may cost you heavily around 200$.

this is the only solution for your problem.

    thank you for cooperation.

    good luck.

dont forget to accept MY solution if go by it.

    have a good day

    bye

CHA flashing on readout screen. Battery is fully charged. What does CHA mean?

If there are brackets around the CHR, it means the card is locked. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If there are no brackets around the CHR, it means the camera cannot read your memory card. Try a different card.

I have a Nikon d70 SLR. I had this camera completely cleaned and tuned up 3 months ago. Recently I can not take pictures. The battery powers the camera, but the shutter wont engage. An "error" message...

Read the manual on how to do a two-button reset. Also: from the nNikon Support Page on the D70::
It has come to our attention that select electrical components in a limited number of D70 cameras may, in some instances, fail affecting camera performance and/or operability.
While only a limited number of D70 cameras are affected by this advisory, if (1) when a memory card is inserted, your D70's memory card access lamp blinks, locking camera operations and preventing operation, or (2) with no memory card inserted, the camera will not turn on despite the battery indicator showing a fully charged battery, Nikon Inc. will service it free of charge.
To obtain complimentary service for cameras affected by this advisory, please click the link below to download and print the Service Return Form. The Service Return Form provides return instructions.
The Frequently Asked Questions button at the bottom of this page offers more information about this advisory and, should you have more questions, also provides information about how to contact Nikon.
We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience.

Flashing chr and tried everything

questions as bare as this are less likely to be answered because they contain no information of value to the reader to assist you in solving the problem.
?chr? charger? chair? character? ( abbreviation)

If the unit is on charge flashes but does not charge, suspect a faulty charge system circuit or a dead battery unit that needs to be replaced.

Nikon D70 with brand new Sandik ultra11 2gb flash card error CHR

Go to the Nikon site and upgrade the firmware on your D70 to version 2.0.

Before doing that, try turning the camera off, wait a min, then back on. That sometimes clears the error. The D70 is having trouble reading the card(s) you're putting in. The upgrade fixes that.

I have a Nikon D50 with an error message "CHA"

This error indicates the following:
This card cannot be used (CHR) blinks.
Problem(s)
Error accessing memory card
Unable to create a new folder (on card)
Card has not been formatted for use on D70

Try another card
Format the card using your D70 (all images will be erased)
Check the card for visible damage or poor contacts.

You may have inserted a memory card that was been used in a different camera or the formatting process did not complete successfully.
I hope this helps.

Nikon D70

Greetings,
It is actually an error message generated by your compact flash and means that the card is no longer readable. A lot of D70 owners have reported this error without being able to find another solution other than reinserting the card or changing the card to a different brand. In my D70s I use Sandisk Extreme III memory and, knock on wood, have not yet had this error. You could also try cleaning out the memory card slot and check to see that all pins are aligned and not bent.
Good Luck,
-WN
