The only thing that could stop you from sending a fax or not get a dial tone, would
be the connection to the phone line. Make sure the telephone wire is
plugged into the line jack (not ext jack) and should go straight to the wall, without
splitters or extensions. If you still cannot send a fax, try another
wire or jack
A DEPENDABLE MACHINE BUT LACKS PRINTING QUALITY! Date of Review: Jan 14, 2009. The Bottom Line: Love the fax...not too impressed with printing quality or ink prices. Review: I bought my Brother Multi-Function Center 440CN a couple of years ago. ....Brother MFC-490cw Color... Brother MFC-440CN All-In-One. ... www.shopping.com
Plug a phone into the line and listen for static. Too many phones on the line, bad lines, etc, can cause a poor line condition. Try the unit directly into the phone line, no answer machine or anything else on the line. Maybe the memory thing is it has a lot of faxes that it hasn't been able to send.
First this is a good machine, I use the same one and have my fax setup for the same thing. If you have a (TAD) Telephone Answering Device first you have to set up your phone to pick up before the fax, do this by setting the phone to pick up on three rings and the fax to pick up on four. Go to Menu/Fax/Setup Receive/Ring Delay. While there make sure Easy Receive is on. The machine itself will distinguish between regular calls and facsimiles and will display this info at the time of the call on its LCD screen, make sure you are using the line connection and not the phone connection. Hope this helped.
