Question about HP Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

Have two fax machines on two seperate broadband lines, both lines also serve internet/mail access which is working fine. Both faxes exhibit periodic/intermittent transmit and receive problems. Have had lines checked by BT, both are apparently fine with no noise issues. Both ADLS filters have also been changed. On the Laserjet 3055, error codes 283 (receive) and 386 (send) seem to feature regularly.

You can not send or receive faxes with any consistency on Broadband lines. You need an analog telephone line for these to work. Fax machines work on analog technology.

Can't fax

Fax machines will not work on digital phone lines. You need to have a seperate phone line to run one. If your office is using DSL for internet, usually they can run one off of that line with a filter installed.

NO DIAL TONE

If you are using the same phone line on broadband and fax, you may need to use a filter for the fax line. Also make sure the phone line is plugged into where it says "line" side of the fax and not where it says phone.

Hope this helps...

Fax machine cuts in when dialling up internet

many if not most Fax machines made in the last 5 years, the fax has priority answer set into them.
No way to turn that off. It will answer the line first.
I fought that for quite a while replacing boards and settings. Just takes priority.
