Very Helpful. Sorry did not get back to you. Away. installed this morning. went like clock work.

Turned the oven on and no power to either of the elements.

    Tried broil/bake/ etc.

The top burners are working fine. Only the elements in the oven.

Any suggestions. Needed to replace the element anyway

    Thanks

Did my advice help you with replacing your oven heating element?

Okay...is the clock assembly working? This is what controls all of your oven features. That's why the surface elements may be working, but the oven is not. The surface elements work through individual infinite switches which are located behind each control knob. Have you checked your primary power? If not, turn off the main breaker and carefully slide the range out so you can get behind it. Remove the small access panel where the power cord attaches to the terminal block. Attach meter leads to the RED and BLACK wires and turn the breaker back on. You should be reading 220-240VAC. If not, you may a primary power problem. I could not find a wiring diagram for your range online. There should be one inside the control panel or on the back of the range. If you are missing one leg of the 220 circuit, some features of the stove may still work, while others don't. I need to know what this reading is as the terminal block.

The 220 circuits in the rest of your home may be ok, but if you have a problem with the receptacle that the range plugs into, you could still have a range that isn't working properly. You need to make sure the proper voltage is coming from the receptacle in order to determine if you have a power related problem, or a problem with the Electronic Oven Control (EOC) not turning the elements on properly.

Designer series model 484440A Tappan electric range: oven element burnt out. Can't get the old one out!! Help mary

There should be 2 screws that hold the element in place. If you are having trouble getting the screws out, DISCONNECT POWER, then take a flathead screwdriver and shove it between the element bracket and the oven wall. Apply a twistnig force to the screwdriver as you unscrew the screws.

The heating element may be burnt out, you will need to replace this element if it does not heat up when the oven is turned on, try turning the oven to broil if the top element heat up then indeed it is the bottom element and need replacing.

It is very common for elements to "catch fire" when they fail. It is really electical arching. But to answer your question you shouldnt be concerned if it ever happens to the bottom element immediatly kill the breaker it will stop instantly. dont use a fire extinguisher as it wont stop the arching. And most ovens do use the upper broil element for baking for very short intervals like 10secs on every minute or so to brown the top of product. Some models (especially older builder line ) do not
