This is generally a driver issue. You will need to connect to another keyboard and possibly mouse, then uninstall the drivers for the keyboard and mouse (usually called the synaptic pointing device) on the laptop from the device manager, then disconnect the external keyboard and mouse, then reboot. It will find the hard ware and reinstall the drivers. If the problem persists, then it's a hardware issue. Check the connections for the keyboard and mouse, if the connections are good the the devices may have failed and you will need to take it in to have them checked or replaced.
