Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

RV A/C If your unit says it takes R22 is there any other coolant that can be put in the system? I have a pump and can pull the vaccum and I have the gauges to put it in. Thanks for your input.

You can buy a hotshot 410 retrofit kit to replace 22 with 410 if you are looking at an ozone friendly option. These kits can be purchased at Key, Johnstone, or most HVAC suppliers.

The AC stopped cooling

Just had the same problem with a 29 year old a/c unit. Adding R22 coolant was all it needed. You should know that rear people pay approx $15 per pound for the coolant. That's important information as they'll probably charge about $95 for the service call but they'll try to hit you up for $65 per pound for the coolant for an extra hidden charge. Ours required 4 to 5 pounds, so the price per pound for R22 coolant (for an older unit) is where you're gonna want to negotiate with them.

Where do you install R22 piercing valve on RV ac system?

R22? You're not still using that are you?! On the compressor you have a small tube that goes to the condenser (hot side) and a larger tube that comes back from the evaporator (cold side) The piercing valve goes on the cold side, Fit the guages to the valve. You should have about 3 bar with the unit running

Where do you recharge the AC with r22?

Most rooftop RV units do not have service ports installed. You would have to get line tap valves to install in the system. The next problem would be getting some R22. Unless you have and EPA CFC certification you cannot buy R22.

I need t recharge the freon. It takes R22. Where do I charge this system? I pulled the roof cap off and cannot find and caps to recharge the system

AC's routinely are sold/installed without charging valves.

So, unless your unit has been worked on/serviced in the past it will not have any place to charge with freon.

Note: unless you've developed a 'leak,' it is unlikely that you've lost any freon, and in the event that you have - it will take a Service Tech to install valves and charge your unit correctly.

I would call a Service Tech to assist.

hope this helps.

Can you tell me what type of refrigerant is in my a/c it is a 15 k btu dometic brisk air roof top unit and is about 4-5 years old.I can't find it on the unit also how much will it hold and if its not 134 a...

USUALLY its R22. DO NOT USE ANY REFRIGERANT TIL YOU KNOW IT NEEDS IT THOUGH. The plate is usually inside the top cover and you can read it after removing the cover. If its a 110or 220 AC unit Im almost sure its R22. And the weight listed will be the most you should try to put in it. BUT before you do that you have to put on a piercing valve. And the pressures are higher for R22 than R134A. It will ofcourse depend on the outdoor and indoor temps as to what pressures youll be running as well as fan speed. Freezing is 57-58psig on R22 so the pressure after ruinnign 10 to 15 minutes has to be greater than 57 or 58 PSIG. It is normal for some units to run for a while at a lower pressure when 1st started though so dont jump the gun.
