Lily...thanks so much for your reply I sure appreciate it...yes I have found a group that has been helpful..have I taken the plunge and just played? no not yet ....I guess my biggest fear is breaking the machine and then not being able to afford to have it repaired.

    thanks again

I feel your pain.
There are several guides on places like and such to teach you how to properly stabilize your fabric, and what threads to use. You can also try an embrodiery group website, that specalize in forums for q and a.
However, the manual can be a good reference. It is obscure and difficult to determine answers, but they are in there.
The truth is you just have to experiment a bit until you run into a problem. Then when you have a problem, look for the solution. It seems to be the best way to learn with this product.

How to adjust bottom thread tension on my CE-5000 sewing machine

Unfortunately, the manual for your machine describes adjusting only the top thread tension.

Brother CE 5000PRW Operation Manual Troubleshooting

If you look closely at the area where the bobbin is installed and threaded, there is probably a little screw that adjusts the tension spring. That may be where the bobbin tension is adjusted. Beware though that a tiny adjustment could make a huge difference, so be sure to always mark where the screw was positioned before making any changes.

Another thing you can try is ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread. Sometimes the top thread tension is an issue but appears on the bobbin side of the fabric.

My bobbin winder quit working, how do i fix it?

Hard to say since we really don't have clue of the symptoms.

Check out a standalone bobbin winder, one brand is called "Sidewinder" and can be found online or in fabric stores, like JoAnn's. Be sure to confirm that your bobbin will work on the machine before you purchase!

Just bought a brothers pq1500 to use in my little gracie frame, would like to know what is the best settings to put the machine on and the needle that is best. Does one type of thread work better the...

I would go on because there is no such thing as 1 setting.Thecraftygemini, is good to follow, so is Niler Taylor for easy to understand lessons. You have different settings for different fabric, also needles. Cotton more than likely would use a #11 needle, thread, all purpose, or Poly. See, what I mean? Read your manual so that you can identify parts easily, your machine is a nice easy one. Good basic mechanical. Where did you buy it? Did they offer lessons? Or do you have a friend who sews?

I would like to find a machine that monograms and does not cost over $500. All I want to be able to do is the traditional 3 letter monogram (larger letter in center) or a child's name, such as Charlotte...

My advice is to try going to a shop that sells machines and gives lessons for free. I bought from JoAnn's and they gave me lessons on it. I bought a Brother for $549 and I am not sorry because I actually know how to use it thanks to the girls at JoAnn's. I would not be using all of the features if I didn't have the hands on instruction. The manual is great for a refresher but nothing beats doing it and someone answering your questions. Think about it before you buy online, you may save a few bucks but in the long run you will be happy to have a relationship with people who care if you have a problem and can help you.

When I try to make a button hole, my machine starts to stitch and after a few seconds it stops, beeps, and flashes the code BL on the screen.

Call your Sears store sewing department and ask them if they can help you, your manual should tell wha the error code BL stands for. Usually the salesperson who sells the machines has some training on the machines. I used to love it when they gave lessons on their machines, now you are stuck on your own. You would think that they would try to give more customer service instead of here's the box, give me your money and go. Good luck, you deserve some TLC from them, after all you could have bought a machine anywhere and you chose them, it is up to them to earn your loyalty to their store.

Call customer service, 1-800-4singer and get the answer. Heard they are a nightmare to thread. If, you can't get it to work return and by a Singer Simple for $99. at Joann's. They give you a lesson on it for free. Good luck
