Question about Mitsubishi VS-50705 50" Rear Projection Television

Mitsubishi VS-50705 No Video

Need some help with this one. Had this set for around 8 years and no problems until now. Lost video while watching tv, sound and channels change fine. Would like to see if I can repair the problem. I checked the set inside for leaking crts and checked the four fuses and they are good. Need a little help where to go from here. I just ordered a service manual on CD, not sure if this will help but will at least be a good reference I hope. Thanks for any help with this set. Dennis

    HI Big Irish- Thanks for your help, let me update the latest. Just after my last post on July 6th, I was able to do a service check green light came back 1 then 2. Then the picture would get black broken vertical lines across the screen and the picture would go to a black blank screen. Then this would happen all over again. Two days later tried the set again, now the set is working fine, for now. I know something in the set is breaking down, might be the part you suggest L2C50. The set is normally set up on cable. I thought it may be the box, at first, so I have it going only from the cable line without the cable box. The set was having the problems both ways with just the cable line and with the box added. Now it is working but i'm sure it is only short lived. Not hooked up to any stereo system. Thanks for your help. Dennis

    Hey Big Irish, Checked this morning, did not see any liquid on the boards nor any type of corrosion. Very dusty but did notice on the top area of crts it appears that a clear to yellowish resin/ or hot glue gun type material was used to secure connections. Hardened cob webs of this material is on some wires. Do not think this is what you are talking about. Looks to me like a glue gun was used and the reside that dripped hardened in a cobweb form. I see no fluid or liquid or corrosion on the boards. Thanks and have a great w/e. Dennis

    Here is the latest update on this set. Everything was working fine till yesterday. Now this is what happens. The set will make a poping sound and a horizontial 2 to 3" white line comes across the screen at the same time. Happens 2 or 3 times a minute. It's time to fix this before football regular season begins. What do I do to fix this problem. Thanks, Dennis

    Hi Big Irish,

    I'll check for fluid leaking on PCB and also try to isolate where popping noise is coming from. Thanks, Dennis

    Hey Big Irish Thank You for your help. Took out the chassic in the sunlight and was able to see the leaking fluid from the crt on the PCB.Cleaned it up and replaced four caps C2PO2-47m/35v, C2PO3-100m/16v, C2PO4-47m/16v & C2PO5-100m/16v.     Good Day, Dennis;
    No video, has sound changes channels, ok. How do you change channels? Is it via a cable/sat box or direct ant/cable to TV?? Is audio from the TV or stereo system?? For no video, CHECK FOR OPEN L2C50 PART #325C146030 ON THE SIGNAL PCB.

Good Day, FamilyGuycruzer;
OKAY! Some way / how your TV started working all of sudden for at least 3-4 weeks then developed a different concern.
Well, let's think about this?????????????????? Still thinking
....................................., OH, maybe the HIGH VOLTAGE Cables are loose they are the right side of chassis (looking back) towards the rear of chassis. Check to make sure that they secure and any other connection are secure and seated properly.
big IRISH.

Good Day, Dennis,
I'm glad it's working for the time being, which leads me to ask you to check this out, since the problem seems to come and go. Please remove front speaker cover, it just pops off, then remove the small black panel in the center TV front.
You want to look for fluid on PCB's, this 1999 model was known for this. The spots are very small, sometimes the size of a dime. They could be clear, or greenish with blackish type mold (corrision). Use bright light it's hard to see.
This fluid comes the TV's picture tubes, they use ethylene
glycol to cool the tubes. It's easy to clean with power off, unplug for safety reasons, use acid-tone, Finger nail remover, with paper towels & brush (tooth) to remove fluid.
Put heavy plastic or thick card board over affected areas.
Good Luck, big IRISH.

    Good Day, Dennis;

    If you can't hear where the popping is coming from, I will suspect still a fluid on PCB concern. Your TV may have fluid on CRT's anode area. I experience a Mit's Tv today that had no fluid last Wed and today, Wed, there was fluid on boards.

    The reason I suspected the High Voltage area is that 'popping' normally causes popping and picture distortion and not a Dc circuit area. Try to isolate where the popping is coming from.

    Good Luck, big IRISH.

    Good Day and Good LuckbI.

    Good Day; Dennis;

    You should be okay now. The liquid is hard to see. That's why I stated bright light.

    Sorry, for the late responce but just got hit with IKE, been busy. Thanks and glad you found the problem, big IRISH.

Cannot adjust convergence

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture
