Generally, such an error indicates the hard drive has had a severe failure and needs to be replaced.

If a portable, you can try reseating the drive. If a desktop, you can reseat the cables.

Check in the system BIOS, see if the hard drive is identified by size/model, if it is, then you can try running diagnostics on the drive to see if you can get a failure code.

if diagnostics pass, you can try booting to your Windows CD, and run tools like CHKDSK and BOOTCFG /rebuild to fix the file system.

But you are getting a BIOS level error from what you describe and that usually means replacing the hard drive.

"A disk read Error

Hi,

It looks like problem with your Hard Disk Drive, your drive may have bad sector on it. You may have to remove yor HardDrive and connect it to other computer using converter cable which you may get in market or local computer shop to backup your data. If you already have backup with you, register call with acer support website and get it replaced free if under warranty.
If this laptop is not under warranty, you may have to buy new harddrive and replace it and restore your Operating systems, programs and data.

Hope this helps.

I hit "contrl, alt, delete"

For that you need to start computer in safe mode. For that when you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in safe mode. Remove temp files from computer. Press windows key + R then you can see type in run "%tmp%" without "" then press enter then remove all temp files.Type in run "prefetch" without "' then press enter remove all prefetch files. Type in run "chkdsk /r" then press enter then press "y" then restart computer then it fix errors on harddrive. Then you can use it again. If still same then you need to create new user account .from start menu->control panel. You can create it on safe mode too with default administrator account. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

For that open cpu cabinet.then reconnect both connection to harddrive. Reattach RAM memory . then when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or del or ALT+F2 then you can see bios setup make sure harddrive is recognized then save settings and exit. If your harddrive is recognize and still not able to load windows then you need reinstall windows with repair option with windows disk . Also try to run computer in safe mode for that when you power up the computer press F8 key 5 to 6 times then you can see safe mode and other menu then enter in safe mode then go to start menu->run type in run "chkdsk /r" without "" then press "y" then restart computer then it will fix and recovers errors on harddrive. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart error

Is it a black screen right when you boot your computer? If so this could be a fatal disk error and the harddrive has crashed.

There is no easy fix other than to replace the harddrive.

My computer password protected

go to Start/Run and type "control userpasswords2" minus the quotes. You can also use "control userpasswords" to bring up the user accounts menu thats found in control panel.
If you are using a standerd account go onto this website and consider what they offer: http://www.password-changer.com/

Problem with a disk read error

There are a couple of possibilities.

1. The hard drive is defective.

2. The operating system is corrupt.

The easiest way to test this is to run the restore cd that came with the computer to reload Windows.

If you get this error while running the restore cd then you will need to get a new hard drive.
