Dell latitude D600 problem

When i attempt to turn the computer on,the three lights to the left of the power button flash once and then the center one flashes nine times and the computer shuts off.On the rare occasion it did start,it comes up to a message that states it was shut down abnormally and offers to start it in the last known good mode, but when i try it,the computer freezes. The majority of the time it won`t get that far. When I try to start I press the start button and the three lights to the left blink rapidly for a couple seconds and go off with out starting. Eventually it will start but I sometimes try 20 or so cycles before it does. I try pressing and holding the battery in many positions. I have removed the battery and tried on AC power only as well as with battery and AC power . I have replaced both the main battery and the clock battery. This am it fired up on two tries but Friday I got the blus screen forecasting physical dump of memory.

This is do to the jack were the power button board plugs into the motherboard, i see this alot on d600 and d610, the lights come on for about 3 sec then computer turns off..

this can be fixed by resoldering the plug to the motherboard but most will say you need a new mother board the leads are small and tight together..

Used motherboard on ebay $60-150

The flashing caps lock is an indication of a failed POWER on Self-Test (POST)

Remove the HDD, Battery, AC adapter, RAM and Modem

Press and hold power button for 15 seconds

Connect AC, see if you get any beep codes. If you do, power off, disconnect power, insert RAM, connect AC and reboot. If system boots, power off and add hard drive. If it doesn't, replace the motherboard.

If the system boots with RAM, but fails to boot with HDD, replace HDD 1st.
