If nothing at all works then perhaps you have no power to the system.

Check that the powerpack is getting power (does it hum or get warm when plugged into the mains socket?) Check all connections to the power pack and back of laptop.

Try taking the battery out and powering up on only the power pack

Do you know anyone with a similar laptop that you could swap power pack with?

My computer just went belly up! It is a reconditioned IBM ThinkCenter, a little over 2 years old. It was running normally and then all hell broke lose, cooling fan went berserk sounding like a hair dryer...

Since your PC is two years old its recommended to check your computers hardware check your cooling fan
specially CPU cooling fan if that fan is broken your pc wont work and be careful turning on your PC again and again will burn the processor

My emachine wont boot it gos to salect safe mode our normal and wen u click one it shuts down and gos back to the select screen again

Bad news. Probably your hard drive has crapped out.
If you plan to replace the drive get a Seagate brand. They cost a little more than the Western Digital, but they last alot longer.

Windows Vista shuts down when trying to access floppy drive

floppies are very much vulnerable to viruses. there might be an issue with the computer getting affected. i strongly recommend that you run a antivirus program before proceeding further. good luck!

Computer well not boot

The computer may have done a routine software update that automatically reboots the PC when complete. HP is known for this. If it fires up when you turn it on, no worries. If its DOA then thats another issue. Best regards.

Wont come on

If the battery does not hold a charge remove it and try again. If the battery gets too low it can stop the laptop from booting. Also pulling the battery will make sure that it completely powers down, they can sometimes get "stuck"

Hope this helps

My laptop won't shut down properly!

Is it possible that you have changed the settings of what buttons do what on your system? E.g. you could have changed the power button to "switch user" instead of "shut down", to check this (in XP) go to "Power Options" (in Control Panel" and then click on the "Advanced tab" at the top, then select "Shut down" from the drop down menu at the bottom of the window.

If this is already set to shut down then maybe you could do a system restore in case another setting has been changed, restore it to before the PC started doing this.

Alternatively try actually choosing "Turn off Computer" from the Log On screen (press Ctrl + L to get to this screen, or choose switch user/log off). If you are using Vista I beleive that there is a shut-down option from the Log In Page there (which again you can access by pressing Ctrl + L on the keyboard.

Hope this helps!

HP LAPTOP PROBLEM

Hi there

As knotbeerdan says you may need to repair Windows.

If the laptop is Windows XP, find a Windows XP system disk (the restore disk it came with or any system disk.

Put it in the CD drive and start the laptop.

When it gives you the option, type in R to repair Windows.

It may come to C: prompt.

Type in "chkdsk". This should check the hard drive for errors.

After this restart the laptop. Hopefully Windows will run properly again

Cann't shut down properly

If you are trying to shut down with the camera still connected!!??GOTO the bottom right of screen and ""safely remove hardware"" see if the system will shut down.....sometimes a hardware driver does not want to shut down so you must turn it off and plug it in again when you start windows again....

My toshiba laptop wasnt loading up and i tried all the settings like safe mode and none of them worked. i don't have a restore disk so i used the one for my emachines computer. it was working fine until i...

When you use a generic install disk, instead using original recovery disk, you need to re-install all drivers.
Network wont work until you install LAN card driver, games and other software wont work correctly until you install proper video drivers, sound, internal modem, wireless, and bluetooth may also need drivers. All you have to do do is: selecting model from Toshiba website, download and install drivers.
