Question about Toshiba Satellite A1O A15 A20 A25 A30 A35 A40 A45 Series 15 inch LCD Display- LP150X06 CD-ROM Drive

The hard drive may have crashed?

It was making loud screeching noises so my husband rebooted. It wouldn't load windows xp. It still shows the toshiba satellite a20/a25 screen but that's it...so we tried pressing F8 for safe mode and it wouldn't boot in any of the choices given. Upon trying to reboot again it now says there is an IDE error, insert system disk. So we tried installing the restore disk provided and it won't complete the install.
Do you think the hard drive is dead or is there still any hope? I have tried to get into the bios, but am not sure which button to press on his system...delete works on most. Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

Toshiba satelite p200-ab1 formatted drive which previously had windows vista and now want to load windows xp but will not recognize a drive to load to. if I try nto reload vista it will take but why not...

Before you attempt it, make a couple of changes in the BIOS to hopefully work around a few problems that might crop up.
At reboot, tap the F2 key to enter setup that will allow you to make a change in the BIOS.
Disable caching module before you change the drive sata settings.
Set the hard drive to "ATA compatible."

Sounds like your hard drive is crashing or has crashed. You will most likely need to get a new hard drive and reinstall Windows on it. I hope you have your important files backed-up.

Noises made by your HD is a clear sign of mechanical problem, your laptop cannot access the system files on your HD anymore. Have the HD replaced.

WINDOWS XP WON'T LOAD TO HARD DRIVE

1) If you are trying to install from a bootable disk and trying to make a fresh install, you will not come across this error.

2) If you are trying to repair the existing installation, you might need to use FIXBOOT command and try. Please refer the below link before you try this.

I take it you see the hard drive when you boot to vista cd. doing install can you remove partition and then create new partition format and install vista software. have you tried that if so sounds like your hard drive is working and can delete and reset drive partition index. if your crashing in post then you need to push the tab key when toshiba logo appears should switch showing post BIOS boot on screen all text you should try pressing the setup key as soon as you see the num loc light blink on your keyboard the driver is loaded press f2 then tab key to check post boot.
please let me if this helped you.

SanDisk Cruzer Micro 2 crashes my system!

Hi marykins,

When you say 'crash' does this mean the system reboots, freezes up entirely, or blue screens?

I've seen similar issues when the USB 2.0 host controller isn't enabled in the System (BIOS) setup. Many devices, such as USB mice and MP3 players and even flash drives, will show up and some will function, but if the USB is required to act as a host controller, devices such as external hard drives and (sometimes) flash drives will either not show up at all on the computer or will crash it.

I'd suggest first looking in the BIOS setup to make sure that both the USB host controller and USB legacy support are enabled.
