Canon MX700 will not print black. All setting have been set back to default, all ink cartridges are registered as adequate. All maintenance features have been excercised and look ok, but can not print black.

I can print black or what I guess is supposed to be black. It appears Very hazy no matter what type of gloss paper I use . I'm taking this printer back. I will stay with hp.

We also have a Canon MX700 and the black will not print. All ink cartridges are full and register as full, but black will not print. We are stumped as there is only one print head and colors print.

We have the exact same problem. Black will not print on Canon MX700 model all in one printer. All ink cartridges are full and register as full on printer screen, but black will not print. This is a puzzle because there is only one print head and it prints color, but not black.... very odd.

I had the same problem where the printer will print perfictly in all colors but black. If the print job is all black and white like a black & white copy I just get a blank pge, if it is in color, I get all colors but where it is just black there is just blank space. Unplugging the printer has no effect but the printer will work correctly for 4-5 prints after resetting the firmware of the printer. Then it reverts to the same problem. I have purchased all new canon cartridges as well as replacing the print head itself and the problem remains the same. It seems to be a software problem within the printer.

    I have the same problem.
The only way to let the printer print black seems to be cleaning the black printhead manually, by removing it and cleaning it with a cloth, or use the auto-clean utility by software.

I've had this exact problem! You will need regular rubbing alcohol and some q-tips and some canned air (if you've got it handy since it's kinda expensive). Remove all of your print cartridges and then remove the print head. Turn the print head upside down and clean back and forth with a q-tip dipped in alcohol. Don't use the same q-tip too much, if one gets icky after a few passes, use a clean one. Then, while your cover is still up, run a clean q-tip dipped in alcohol over the gold prongs that the print head sits next to. Be careful, the prongs will "pull out" the q-tip so pass over them gently. Spray the connections with canned air, making sure there are no loose fibers around. I sprayed the whole inside. After I did exactly all of this, it worked-PERFECTLY. I have no idea which little step worked. Good luck!!

Ok... I fixed mine today. Its low tech, so you can fix it really easily. You need to start just like how elaine said and remove the cartridges and then the print head. Then just rinse the entire print head with water. (I know it sounds messed up but it works. There are no chips in the print head or anything, just connections that can dry before you reinstall) After you have rinsed the print head out just thoroughly dry off the connections and let dry for a few minutes. I did that today and BAM....first print worked like magic!

Try a "hard restart"', which simply means unplugging the power cord of the printer, and replugging it after one minute has passed. If that does not work, then rerun the CD used to install the printer. Both techniques reprogram the electronics, to a certain extent.
Hope these suggestions help you out.

I had exactly the same problem. It started when I installed a refilled PGBK cartridge in my MX700. I switched back to a brand new cartridge but it still would not print black despite several cleaning cycles. Just unplugging the printer for a couple of minutes cleared the problem.

Make sure you have the latest drivers for the printer installed on your computer by visiting the manufacturer's website and getting and installing the latest version. Next, if you've already run the cleaning procedure, try replacing the ink cartridges. Finally, if that doesn't work, the printer may be defective and should be sent back.

Printing too red

At this point I would offer that you bight the bullet and get a set of OEM Canon cartridges and do all the deep cleaning etc and see where that puts you. The third party cartridges may have caused some kind of problem, and not any "damage"
