Windows 2000 Pro Armada M700 Boot Up Problem

Hi, Guys! I have Hi: I have a Win 2K work laptop at home that has never had a problem until last night. Machine is updated and clean, as far as I know. After normal shutdown last night, boot up this morning failed as follows: I powered it up, got the usual screens (e.g., F8 for options, etc., Windows is starting up, applying security policy, Ctrl+Alt+Del to begin, entered User name and password as usual, click OK, Loading your personal settings, applying your personal settings, screen clears as usual, Win 2K startup music snippet plays, AND THEN, instead of seeing the Desktop and the usual start up, the music plays again, almost immediately, followed up Saving your personal settings, and then back to invitation to go ctrl+alt+del to enter user name and password. Have gone into all Safe Modes, same thing. After looking at this for quite some time today, it occurs to me that the thing is looping through some kind of shutdown and implicit restart request. That music snippet normally occurs only at start up and normal shut down. The fact that it occurs twice quickly in succession with the Saving your personal settings message leads me to believe it's looping out of boot to some kind of restart. Only from the ctrl-alt-del screen can I shut down normally (without the music!). This is a corp. machine but I can't get any support on this until Monday morning; that's why I'm here. I've logged on as Admin (somebody at my Help Desk yesterday gave me the id and password), but that didn't work, either. The same thing happens again. I've hit F10 and looked around, but don't see anything that would help me (then again, I have no idea what I'm doing, except hurting that I can't get to my network). I'm not going into the office today, so I can't physically deliver the laptop to my tech support guys until Tuesday. So here I am at 4 in the morning trying to get some help. Hope you can! Is there some way to get the blasted laptop NOT to load my personal settings or can we get into the boot up process in a kind of debugging mode to go through it step-by-step and bypass whatever is making us jump to an exit/restart kind of thing and loop de loop? The CMOS battery is fine, the main batter is fine, AC power is fine. I don't think there's anything wrong with the hardware. Maybe there's some registry hiccup where Windows thinks it's in shutdown mode during boot up - I dunno. HELP! Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Koshin

Hi! Thanks for your reply. No change. Last known good made no difference. Still same loop: double music, Saving your settings, ctrl-alt-del invitation to enter userid and password. Anything else you can think of will be most appreciated! Thanks, Koshin

Hi. Thanks, but this laptop doesn't have a CD drive and I have no Windows disks of any kind. So, repairing the OS is not an option currently. Isn't there some exotic keypress combination that will interrupt the boot up process and let us step through it in some kind of debugging mode to bypass the error? Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Koshin

Error Message: F12=Network Service Boot

The BIOS may have reset to the default settings. Sounds like this was originally a workstation on a Corporate Domain Network. Access the BIOS and reset the boot order for CD first, then Hard Drive - you can even disable Network as a boot option. Power spike won't affect the Hard Drive contents, but it can reset a BIOS. Your win2000 should be intact.

I have a Fujitsu Lifebook P-2040 that I just reformatted. I'm going to install Windows 2K Professional (don't have the restore disks for XP Home). After I reformatted and restarted, nothing happens. There...

Is there any reason for your preference for Win 2K over Win XP Pro? XP Pro would be a better choice over Win 2K.

You may be able to selecting the CD as the alternate boot device by pressing F12 as the laptop is booting up.
I am not familar with BIOS key on your laptop but you can try these keys on a cold boot up (don't use a warm boot up - Ctrl+Alt+Del keys). Try:-
Del
F1
F2
F10
Ctrl+F1 or F2
Alt+F1 or F2
Esc+F1 or F2
Once you get into the BIOS you can change the boot order, set the CD as the first device. You should be able install Windows from the CD.

If these keys don't work go to the Fujitsu WEB site to download the manual, whilst you are there you will also need to download the drivers for your model laptop the Windows version of the devices that are installed on your laptop eg. audio, video, modem, LAN etc. These need to be installed after the Windows installation.

Controller Driver Issue on Armada M700

I am running a Armada M700 with a Hitachi HTS541060G9AT00 60GB Hard Drive - Ultra ATA-100, 5400 RPM, 8MB. The driver that is loaded in mine is on both primary and secondary is atapi.sys. This driver is also installed on the Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller, along with intelide.sys. The main difference is I am running Window XP Pro SP2. But I believe that they should use the same driver.
Hope this helps.

M700 not booting

Borrow a cd from someone with the same version of windows as you have. For example xp pro or vista. Boot from the cd as go along as if you were going to reinstall. If XP select enter, esc, f8, then r. Those are the answers to the screen questions. In vista boot up the cd then select repair reinstall. It will remove windows files and leave everything else in contact then it will reinstall windows without harming programs or files. It kind of rebuilds itself.

You need to download and install the proper drivers from Compaq (now HP). Go to http://www.compaq.com and do the following:

Click "Get Support" at the top.

Enter "armada m700" in the "Enter a product number" box.

Click the little submit button that looks like ">>".

Click "Download drivers and software".

Click one of the "Windows XP" links. Doesn't matter which one.

Scroll down and click the "Download" buttons that correspond to each driver you want to download.

Install the drivers you downloaded.
