You need to turn the ahcp in the bios to ide mode. This will allow xp to see your drive.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya. Thank you.

Check the BIOS and ensure that you have the following set

boot order CD 1st Hard Drive 2nd, then check to ensure that the boot priority shows your Hard drive as the first drive .

SOURCE: can i install xp-sp3 without Sata driver on motherboard 'DG31PR'

You have a board with 4 SATA ports on it and a SATA HDD. The hardware detection routines will see this and load the SATA drivers. Why would you even want to try to set it up without them?

SOURCE: Intel D945GCCR SATA driver problem.

You shouldn't need the drivers till after the OS is installed.....just go into BIOS and check to see what placement it is in.....or boot up the windows XP CD and select it as the drive to reformat and install XP on. In Bios you can select which drive you want to boot. i.e. IDE/SATA it should have a model number of the one you have selected to boot just make sure it matches the modle number of the drive and you good.

Hi, I have a msi n1996 865gvm3-v motherboard and it doesn't want to pick up my sata drive, what to do?

If you are trying to install Windows XP and it does not detect the SATA hard drive.
The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

I cant install windows in sata hdd for msi pm8m-v

Thank you for your question.

In this case, my opinion would be that the SATA Driver needs to be installed from floppy disc before the install of Windows. It is at the beginning of setup at the bottom of the screen in black writing on a grey background for Windows XP. It says "Press F6 if you need to install other drivers". This is your cue to press F6, the install will load drivers from there to enable the SATA on your motherboard.

If you do not have the motherboard discs, I have attached the link to the makers download page for your motherboard, you can obtain the SATA driver from here.

http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=205

Good luck with your install.

Kind regards

HOW TO INSTALL WIN XP ON SATA HDD ON MSI K8MM -V M/B

If your copy of Win XP does not recognize the SATA drive (i.e. Early copy of XP) you will need to use the F6 option and load the SATA driver that came with the MSI mother board.

Motherboard stop recognize SATA HDD after BIOS reset (default)

You'll likely need either a driver disk for your SATA drive to be recognized by Windows XP during installation or Windows XP with Service Pack 2 built in to install without a driver disk.

Creating a Windows XP installation CD with Service Pack 2 or "SP2" built in is fairly straight forward. This is called "slip streaming". Step - by - step directions can be found in the following links:

Windows Installation gives blue screen errors.

Hi, at the boot up go into your bios [ on MSI press the delte key continuosly] and turn OFF the onboard virus protection. This can block all O/S from loading as they need to write to the bios in the installation process. Ensure you turn it back on after installation, it is there to stop hackers getting into your bios and wrecking your system. Regards mistyman
