You need to turn the ahcp in the bios to ide mode. This will allow xp to see your drive.

Check the BIOS and ensure that you have the following set
boot order CD 1st Hard Drive 2nd, then check to ensure that the boot priority shows your Hard drive as the first drive .
for more specific advice please provide the MSI board model number

You have a board with 4 SATA ports on it and a SATA HDD. The hardware detection routines will see this and load the SATA drivers. Why would you even want to try to set it up without them?

You shouldn't need the drivers till after the OS is installed.....just go into BIOS and check to see what placement it is in.....or boot up the windows XP CD and select it as the drive to reformat and install XP on. In Bios you can select which drive you want to boot. i.e. IDE/SATA it should have a model number of the one you have selected to boot just make sure it matches the modle number of the drive and you good.
